Generating monthly marketing report Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:44:24 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Should we spend more on marketing? What should we spend on? The monthly marketing report provides an understanding of the company's sales and outreach status i n the past month. This allows measurable forecasting of upcoming marketing strategies. 1) On a monthly basis , we consolidate information for report writing on i) monthly sales ii) return on Investment (ROI) iii) outreach of customers iv) how well the company's sales of certain products are 2) We obtain the company's monthly sales from the finance department, with details of the ROI and specific sales on certain apparel and products 3) Customer profiling from social media platforms are collated, and graphs are plotted to display trends of i) Which webpage is most visited and why ii) Which webpage is popular to a specific group of the targeted audience and why 4) We can either write the report individually or as a team, depending on availability and prioritization of deadlines. Tips To prevent a messy report that is difficult to evaluate, it is important to have a clear structure before writing the report. As the report deals with many numbers, compile relevant information and review the statistics a few times to ensure accuracy. It is also a good practice to compile the final key data together so the person reviewing the report could see all the critical numbers at one glance . Nobody knows best except the designer and the drafter. As much as safety and functionality is concern, we need to test to make sure the product is; 1) Functional 2) Compliance with safety 3) Able to be assembled, operated, and displayed as agreed The following explains each topic in details; 1) Functional Functionality test includes ensuring; i) Furniture that is supposedly collapsible can be done smoothly ii) Furniture that has a rotational feature should abide to a rotational radius iii) Furniture that has a movement feature such as sliding, spring-loaded, and quick-release should be tested and work as pe requirement 2) Compliance with safety i) Furniture that has a tricky centre of gravity should be tested on a prescribed height and distance to prove it will not topple ii) Furniture that has to hang on the ceiling and wall must be tested with professional engineers' certification approval (PE certified). You will have to also consider a vibrational test if the area is close to the railiways, roads, and airports. You should also work with professional to advise customer on the mounting method and its relevant process to ensure safety when assembling and during operation. iii) All electrical wirings and connectors should be designed safely for the user. iv) Any automatic movement should be tested and certified by relevant professional engineers. Speed of movement, and height of mounting is often the safety concern. 3) Able to be assembled, operated, and displayed as planned i) All components and parts can be assembled smoothly and easily by the user ii) All furniture that has a feature and function should be tested as per requirement iii) Aesthetical furniture should be fabricated to meet the display requirement of the designer and relevant stakeholders Tips Before agreeing to fabricate, you should advise the sales team on potential testing and trial fabrication that will incur an additional cost . They should add into the quotation to the customer. You need to be firm and logical when advising customers what can be done and what can't. An alternative solution has to be proposed. It is a known process to send a delivery note (DN) or a goods received note (GRN) to the customer for signing after they have checked and received all the parts. This ensures accountability . The best way to meet the actual candidate first-hand! The purpose of recruitment events is to scout and acquire talent for the roles we need. The following explains how we do it; 1) Depending on our company's scale, we have to plan and manage recruitment events held by schools, E2I, job fairs, and other minor recruitment events . Occasionally, I have to deal with partnership events (with my client) for recruitment purposes. 2) Backend work usually has to start coordination 3 months before the event . This means; i) Budget to run the event ii) Coordinating with the booth providers on design and layout iii) Coordinating the purchase of merchandise with our list of vendors iv) Coordinating the printing of our recruitment brochures with our list of vendors v) If we may need to display our company's products and make necessary coordination with relevant departments 3) When it comes to the design and layout of booths and brochures , the focus is to ensure strong branding and functionality. This means; i) our company logo has to be prominently visible ii) relevant posters and decorations around the booth must be professional and related to our company brand in terms of colours, fonts, and other layout standards of the company iii) brochures have to specify the roles we offer and who to contact clearly v) adequate space to allow potential candidates to speak to us comfortably 4) For large events, I will inform relevant stakeholders (hiring managers) to make time for this recruitment. I will usually stand by the booth with my colleague in the same recruitment team for smaller events. 5) For partnership recruitment events , we will have to coordinate by inviting different companies to give career talks and brand themselves . It can be either an open discussion, or each company is given a duration between 10 to 30 mins to speak on stage. - Communicating with Headquarter (Field Engineer)
Because the headquarters (HQ) of reputable brands usually are located in Europe, the US, and China, Singapore becomes an attractive regional hub as for technical and sales activities. Mainly because of our bilingual capabilities and stable operations. Communicating with Headquarter (Field Engineer) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:44:07 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! When product issues are beyond our capabilities to resolve, we will seek help from the Headquarters. Because the headquarters (HQ) of reputable brands usually are located in Europe, the US, and China, Singapore becomes an attractive regional hub as for technical and sales activities. Mainly because of our bilingual capabilities and stable operations. To seek advice, we usually email HQ first . Unless urgent or necessary, we will arrange a voice or video call. Time zone is a crucial factor here. 1) The reasons for seeking their advice are; i) The headquarter oversees the manufacturing of products and systems. Thus, they should be aware of the problems during manufacturing and software configurations. ii) There may be a lack of steps taken during a manufacturing or configuration process, which may cause anomalies. iii) It may be a setting issue when HQ forgot to configure it back to its original state after testing is done iv) It may be a compatibility issue if newer versions of their products cannot communicate well with older systems. v) The new product was launched too quickly and was not fully tested in actual scenarios. Hence, the error occurs, and a new form of solution has to be devised. 2) To ensure proper communication; i) In our email, we ensure that the issues are stated and elaborated clearly by - Stating how the problem was surfaced - Details of the problem - Attempted troubleshooting carried out - Stating relevant observations ii) Enquiries will usually take up to 3 days , depending on the complexity of the issue iii) Sometimes, a system patch could solve the problem iv) If necessary, certain components and parts that HQ couldn't solve are replaced with versions they are more confident with You may also like Managing expectations of customer as an Engineer Assisting sales team (Field Engineer) Paperwork (Engineer) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Natasha Zaman Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:58:47 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! I really cannot stand my boss anymore!! At work, sometimes we have unavoidable issues with superiors we work with. Often, these issues are hard to deal with because it involves confrontation and dealing with hierarchy . However, if you resolve them well can lead to a better workplace experience and show that you can manage expectations well! Here are five common problems and let's start! 1) Unrealistic expectations 2) Taking leave 3) Unfair working conditions 4) Harassments 5) Unreceptive to ideas 1) Unrealistic expectations Your superiors may not always understand your situation . Sometimes they care more about their targets for the company, or perhaps, their bosses set unrealistic expectations on them and are just passing on the stress to you. If you are experiencing this, you should: - Never flatly criticise them. Avoid words such as unrealistic, unreasonable, or impossible. This will only make you seem like someone who is against them rather than on the same team. - Try to understand them. Rephrasing them and asking if it is accurate. This will make you appear empathetic and serve as an excellent start to negotiate. - Explain your situation. Tell them, while you do want to live up to their expectations, you cannot, due to certain reasons. This will serve as good opening to a discussion that benefits both sides. However, your explanations need to be logical. 2) Taking leave You feel guilty asking for leave because you have had bad experiences doing so before; maybe your boss turned down your request. You feel lousy handing over your work to someone, or you do not like being away from work for long. If you are experiencing this, you should: - Prepare in advance as much as possible. Tell your boss as soon as you have vacation plans. Do not leave any urgent work undone. If you do shift work, try to arrange for a replacement. Try not to request it at peak period. - Explain your circumstances. This is important for last-minute situations. Do you have to take care of someone who is ill? Make sure you tell your boss that. - Do not feel guilty. Your personal life and circumstances are important as well. 3) Unfair working conditions This is usually applicable to you if you are a freelancer - your rights are not usually protected by companies you are working for, as compared to full-time employees. If you are experiencing this, you should: - Get in touch with like-minded communities online – find them on Facebook, Twitter or any platform that works. You can find useful tips and knowledge on your rights as a freelancer and the relevant industrial practices. - Stand up for your rights . Once you know what you are entitled to, do not be afraid to negotiate and clarify your expectations before starting on projects. - Do not be afraid to say no. In the end, if companies refuse to treat you fairly, do not be afraid to walk away. Not only will you save yourself from unnecessary stress, but you will also set higher standards for your other fellow freelancers. 4) Harassments This would usually apply to you if you are working in a customer service-related field. You may be experiencing some form of harassment from patients that you are caring for. If you are experiencing this, you should: - Never handle it by yourself. You may be in a state of shock or anger and are not in a good mental state to access to the situation and respond well. - Bring it up to your superiors. Not only can they offer you emotional support, but they also have more capacity to provide you with useful advice. They may even assign you another more equipped colleague to handle that patient. - Give yourself time to process it. How can you better protect yourself next time? What have you learned, and how you should have a proper closure to this event. 5) Unreceptive to ideas You have this fantastic idea, but you present it wrongly. Your superiors dismissed it quickly even though you spent a lot of time working on it. If you are experiencing this, you should: - Make sure that the idea is impressive. Everyone can be a little too proud of their work sometimes. Hence, think and consider thoroughly before submission. - Look out for what your superiors want. Maybe it is a good idea, but they want something different, and you do not understand that. - Change the way you sell your idea. Maybe your superior did not like the way you put across your idea. Put yourself in your superior’s shoes. What aspects of the idea would appeal most to them? - Ensure your superiors understood. When your superior replies you with answers that are not aligned, you may consider giving them scenarios and better understand the situation. - How to feedback to parent (Teacher)
I will speak to their parents to discuss ways to improve their child's performance. Sometimes, parent will also approach me for the same reason. Discuss with the parent about the progress of their child and identify areas for improvement Here are some tips you may want to adopt! For students who are not performing well I will speak to their parents to discuss ways to improve their child's performance. Sometimes, parent will also approach me for the same reason. i) I will usually start by stating what has happened in class to allow the parent to understand the lesson curriculum ii) I will then state what the student has done well by citing examples to allow parents to see their child's progress. This can be done by stating the before and after of the child's progressive improvement . iii) Next, I will define the areas where the student can further improve by stating what they are weak at and propose viable solutions to overcome. This allows the parent to understand their child's weakness and, if possible, assist their learning. For students who are performing well I will do the following; i) I will start by letting the parent understand the lesson curriculum ii) I will then state how the student has improved and attain good results iii) Next, I will identify areas this student can further improve and how to gain more exposure iv) I will then explain our plans to continue helping their child to do well in the upcoming years of their studies You may also like Informal assessment (Music) Prepare classes (Music Teacher) Design class curriculum (Music Teacher) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. - My sports teammate is not cooperating. What can I do?
I don't understand why my teammate is not doing well!! Instead of feeling annoyed, let's identify the six types of teammates and propose solutions to improve teamwork! My sports teammate is not cooperating. What can I do? Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Sophie Ong Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:59:22 am Say Hello Article How-to Guide Say Hello Share with someone you care ! I don't understand why my teammate is not doing well!! Instead of feeling annoyed, let's identify the six types of teammates and propose solutions to improve teamwork! 1) Most Valued Player 2) The Rookie 3) The Achiever 4) The Survivor 5) Happy Go Lucky 6) The Showoff 1) Most Valued Player Most valued players (MVP) are; - Talented and famous in the team - Receive praise for their ability As people have high expectations of them, they may face stress . When these players start to - wanting to play solo - increasingly hot-tempered - become strict during training - being less friendly with the team These could be signs that they are feeling discomfort or stressed. ----- What should I do? ------ - Approach them as a friend - listen to what they have to say and identify the problems they are facing. It may be due to personal issues or the pressure from the team manager/teacher - As a team, propose constructive advice to help share their burden and let them know they are not alone 2) The Rookie The rookies are; - New with little to no exposure - Prone to making mistakes Since everyone learns at different speeds, rookies will require more time. Therefore, if you observe that they are performing worse than before and start to isolate themselves, this could be a sign that their morale is low or they are not interested to learn anymore. ----- What should I do? ------ Understand what had caused this person to act differently . It may be due to; - recent events of someone blaming them for the team's poor performance - being bullied - being ostracized by the team Provide care and concern. Aim to motivate this person and be more inclusive. Communicate as a team to promote a caring culture rather than a reprimanding culture. 3) The Achiever Achievers continuously put in the effort to do well and aim to be a better player. They want to be noticed for their hard work but are not attention seekers. They are driven to do well with good intentions. When they become impatient and aggressive during the gameplay, it may be a sign of them wanting to perform well. ----- What should I do? ------ - Help the achiever by practicing together and accompany them to practice after school . - By lending a helping hand, the achiever will receive the support and help needed to perform better. - This way, team cohesiveness can also be improved concurrently. 4) The Survivor The survivor joins the team and enjoys the sport initially but dislikes training after some time. They are also known as "bench warmers". They do not participate actively and dread to be part of the team. Attending training causes them to be unhappy, resulting in their poor performance in games. ----- What should I do? ------ Encourage the survivor to attend training and offer to be their training buddy. By having someone to attend training together, it will be more fun where relationships can be built. This way, the survivor will start to put in more effort and attend more training activities when they feel that they belong to the team. 5) Happy Go Lucky The real Happy Go Lucky arrives for training late, takes unnecessary breaks, and ignores the team's dynamics. However, this trait may be hard to distinguish since it could be easily covered up with excuses. For individuals who are serious about the sport, they will usually start training on time, practice outside of school, and put in extra effort to become better. Hence, if they start to exhibit behaviors of the actual Happy Go Lucky, this could be a sign that they may be feeling unhappy due to poor performance or blamed by others . If not, they may feel tired or uninterested in such commitment. ----- What should I do? ------ - Identify if a team member is a real Happy Go Lucky or not. - If they are not, embrace their weaknesses and guide them along during training . - For the real ones, provide constant reminders to stay alert in-game and make them feel they belonged in the team to motivate them. 6) The Showoff The showoff seeks attention from others by flaunting things they are good at. They think highly of themselves and aim for success towards personal benefits rather than for the team. They may also throw harsh comments haphazardly whenever they believe they are right. Therefore, when they play solo and do not follow the team's strategy, team members will then feel annoyed, and conflicts may occur. When they are seen as less expressive and perform worse than before, this could be a sign they are not motivated anymore. ----- What should I do? ------ Only praise them when necessary and highlight that the team cohesiveness is essential to perform well. Encourage this person to help weaker teammates; this helps to garner positive attention and be perceived as helpful . Provide advice to ensure they present themselves humbly and positively so that people will like them. You may also like Do you have the qualities to be a student leader? For example; - Ensure no one else are in the premises before arming. - Ensure all doors with door contact are fully closed . - Reporting procedures to our control center if there are any issue when arming the system. 2) Let user have the chance to experience the arming process to have better certainty on the procedures. This includes; - Passing them alarm tag (which is an item used to arm the system) and ask a few of the trainees to demonstrate the procedures in my presence. - Purposely set off the alarm to let the user have a firsthand experience of alarm activation . Moreover, during times of panic , they should know what setting to look out for and react to it. - Ensure trainee are aware the importance of giving control center a call to clarify they have reset the alarm system. Without doing so, we will have to spend time to call them and if they are uncontactable , we may have to visit their premise and potential charges will be imposed depending on the frequency of false activation . Promoting from secondary school to JC, most of you who once had leadership roles might be looking for leadership opportunities. Instead of repeating the same leadership process again in JC, here are four suggestions for you to discover new leadership styles and contexts so that you can experience growth and progress in your leadership journey Want to become a better leader in JC? Promoting from secondary school to JC, most of you who once had leadership roles might be looking for leadership opportunities. Instead of repeating the same leadership process again in JC, here are four suggestions for you to discover new leadership styles and contexts so that you can experience growth and progress in your leadership journey 1) Skills upgrade 2) More self-initiation 3) Leave a legacy 4) Self-reflect 1) Skills upgrade - In JC, you can consider taking up a leadership role that requires a greater amount of responsibility and skills set . Often, this means a leadership position that requires a higher caliber. - This way, you can serve a larger group of people, and while catering to their needs and leading with solutions, you would be able to acquire more leadership skills such as public speaking, strategic planning and executions. - Such new soft skills, together with the existing ones you already possess, will sharpen your leadership style and will be very applicable to your future. 2) More self-initiation - In JC, more flexibility and autonomy are given to students because teachers want to nurture independent and innovative student leaders. - One should use this distinct characteristic of JC leadership to self-initiate new and creative projects. This includes setting up interest groups or community service events that align with your interests, beliefs, and principles. - This is the perfect avenue for you to use your originality to realise a plan you have aspired to lead. Through this, you will understand the importance of having the need to motivate people, providing the right information, and planning a good process that enables good implementations. 3) Leave a legacy i) It will be desirable if you manage to leave something beneficial and long-lasting for the organisation you are serving or your juniors upon graduation. ii) Leaving a legacy marks your positive contribution as a leader who has good leadership qualities iii) Examples of sustainable systems that can be left behind include; - Administrative systems - A successful project that would continue to be held annually - A long-term partnership of your CCA with an organisation/sponsor 4) Self-reflect i) Self-reflection is an important process whereby you recall your actions for the day, for the past week, or even from a long time ago , and think - What you have done well - What you could have done better - What you should not have done at all - What you should avoid in the future ii) It can take the form of; - writing a diary - blogging - any other ways of recording the process down. iii) Do not stop at noting it down. Go back to them and read through from time to time. This helps to crystallise important lessons learned, prevent yourself from letting history repeat itself, and apply the good aspects for the future. - Testing of software
Verify if the function works as expected by giving the same input and compute values in both the program and an excel sheet. Purpose is to manually check if the output from excel tallies with my created function. Testing of software Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:43:53 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! We have to ensure input to the program will achieve the desired output. 1) Verify if the function works as expected by giving the same input and compute values in both the program and an excel sheet. Purpose is to manually check if the output from excel tallies with my created function. Note: A more professional and efficient method is to create a script for automated testing ; Usually for larger-scale projects. This means I do not have to verify each value manually, but the script will reflect errors when it captures discrepancies. i) Initial manual verification is still needed for automated testing and will be changed whenever calculations in the source code is edited. ii) Besides calculation, check if an URL is valid using HTTP status code (can easily google the list of codes). The function for this test is called manage.py. However, the shortcoming is if the URL requires pre-login, the status may reflect pass, but in actuality, the page was redirected to the login page. I thought that Django has a good module for automated testing. iii) Automated testing is useful for large projects or facilitates easy troubleshooting in the future where developers are not familiar with the code anymore. 2) Most often, I am using manual testing because the project is small. 3) I will run through my checklist to ensure all testing are aligned to the agreed requirements with my customers. 4) When we are creating a new system referencing from an old one , we will feed the input into both and validate if their results are the same. Why can't my customer follow instructions? As a service/product provider, our responsibility is to ensure our customer follows proper instruction to achieve optimum results. However, it isn't easy when they have their interpretation of the collaboration. Here are a few types of customer who doesn't follow instructions with tips on how to motivate them; 1) The very busy - This customer is too busy to discuss with you and thus ignored your instructions and carried out otherwise. Tips: You may try to motivate them by letting them know the collaboration work was poor and help them identify areas to improve. Show that you care about the work quality and you want them to do well. Help them find a solution to help you complete your work . 2) The demanding - This customer will show dominance in authority and knowledge. This person will insist that you should change your work curriculum instead of theirs. Tips: You may try to explain your rationale for the work and explain it based on facts and findings . If need be, let the customer know that the work was based on a quotation, and any major changes will be chargeable. Also, you must not be held liable if you fully follow their proposed methods. All these should be detailed down and signed for. 3) The uncooperative - This customer will tend to find the least and easiest work to do. They will skip processes to ensure they can achieve their agenda. (Typically for employees of the customer) Tips: You may try to identify to the customer the importance of following through critical processes . This includes explaining the negative effect of taking "short-cuts" that jeopardise the quality of work and safety (if there is). 4) The quiet - This customer may not know how to feedback, otherwise, do not wish to feedback. Tips: You may try to provide a survey form online and have them fill it up (preferably without the surveyee's name). Otherwise, you may consider take time to build rapport and slowly identify feedbacks in a "non-serious" setting. 5) Not the right person - This customer does not have the right foundation to carried out the tasks specified by the instruction. Tips: You may try to request the customer to attach you someone "fit" to collaborate. This means clearly stating the right kind of skills and knowledge foundation you need to work with. When working on such collaboration, you should communicate your issues in a "non-offending" yet "objective" manner to effectively resolve your customer's problem. Having a good rapport is very important here! - There is a Free Rider in my group in Poly!! What should I do?!
There is a Free Rider in my group in Poly!! What should I do?! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Sophie Ong Last Updated: 31 May 2021 at 4:35:30 am Say Hello Article How-to Guide Say Hello Share with someone you care ! There are many group projects that plays a huge percentage in your subject grade. And, there may be free riders in the group who are irresponsible and are not doing their part. We have identified four ways to help you cope with those free riders! 1) Assign easier tasks 2) Confrontation 3) Report to The Lecturer 4) Take the Responsibility 1) Assign Easier Tasks Everyone in the group will be given a part to do for the group project. Assigning easy tasks to the free riders may get them to do the minimal amount of work for the group. These tasks may include work that requires less research and take less time to complete. When should I assign easier tasks? - When your groupmate is - unmotivated and lazy - seems uninterested - constantly seeks help (but not a free-rider) Providing work that requires minimal effort may be a solution - If your groupmate openly state that they only want to do minimal work 2) Confrontation In group settings, take some time after class to speak to this free-rider. Before you decide to confront , always understand the reasons behind the person’s non-contributing behaviour. Show that this conversation is a form of warning message before the team inform the lecturer about the incomplete work. Based on the team's dynamic, persuade the person to submit an appropriate work before the next deadline. When should I confront? - If this free-rider still does not complete the assigned work despite constant reminders through texts and does not reply to the team - If this free-rider gives obvious excuses not to join group calls or group meetings without a valid reason (e.g. have an appointment despite a group meeting arranged beforehand). 3) Report to The Lecturer Reach out to your lecturer, and appropriate actions will be taken accordingly . Also, when assigning the project grades, the lecturer may be more understanding in awarding grades fairly to the respective group members. When should I report to the lecturer? - After you have confronted this free-rider and the performance was not improved, such as; majority of tasks assigned are incomplete, not showing up in most of the group meetings and ignored most of our request to complete assigned tasks. - A tip would be to discuss with other groupmates before reporting to the lecturer together. This will show the lecturer that your group is serious about the project and team cohesiveness, and when it is affecting more than one person, it is a clear sign this is an issue that needs to be resolved. 4) Take the Responsibility Despite having a free rider, the group project still has to be completed , and someone will have to manage the free-rider’s work. You may have to take up the responsibility to complete this work or split it among your other groupmates who are willing to contribute. When should I take responsibility? - When the group project is still incomplete 1 week before the submission date. This is also an urgent period when the group should be working cohesively to complete the leftover work. (The usual case in Polytechnic). Otherwise, the group is simply forsaking the project. - When the quality of work done does not meet requirement and the majority of groupmates are unconcerned about it. - If there is presentation on top of the report submission, you will also need to remind the team to complete it. Never wait till the last hour when all of you are lacked of sleep while rushing the project and making careless mistakes. To wrap up… The best method is to group with people who are serious and responsible in their work. At times, we may not be able to choose our groupmates and active communication must always be present in the group. This means by motivating and listening to each other and consistently sending reminders to complete a milestone! If the situation does not improve, we may have to put in a little more effort than others . At the end of the day, our grades are at stake and we should do whatever it takes even if it is to do another person’s work.
