  • Motivate customers to follow instruction

Motivate customers to follow instruction Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:49:49 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Why can't my customer follow instructions? As a service/product provider, our responsibility is to ensure our customer follows proper instruction to achieve optimum results. However, it isn't easy when they have their interpretation of the collaboration. Here are a few types of customer who doesn't follow instructions with tips on how to motivate them; 1) The very busy - This customer is too busy to discuss with you and thus ignored your instructions and carried out otherwise. Tips: You may try to motivate them by letting them know the collaboration work was poor and help them identify areas to improve. Show that you care about the work quality and you want them to do well. Help them find a solution to help you complete your work . 2) The demanding - This customer will show dominance in authority and knowledge. This person will insist that you should change your work curriculum instead of theirs. Tips: You may try to explain your rationale for the work and explain it based on facts and findings . If need be, let the customer know that the work was based on a quotation, and any major changes will be chargeable. Also, you must not be held liable if you fully follow their proposed methods. All these should be detailed down and signed for. 3) The uncooperative - This customer will tend to find the least and easiest work to do. They will skip processes to ensure they can achieve their agenda. (Typically for employees of the customer) Tips: You may try to identify to the customer the importance of following through critical processes . This includes explaining the negative effect of taking "short-cuts" that jeopardise the quality of work and safety (if there is). 4) The quiet - This customer may not know how to feedback, otherwise, do not wish to feedback. Tips: You may try to provide a survey form online and have them fill it up (preferably without the surveyee's name). Otherwise, you may consider take time to build rapport and slowly identify feedbacks in a "non-serious" setting. 5) Not the right person - This customer does not have the right foundation to carried out the tasks specified by the instruction. Tips: You may try to request the customer to attach you someone "fit" to collaborate. This means clearly stating the right kind of skills and knowledge foundation you need to work with. When working on such collaboration, you should communicate your issues in a "non-offending" yet "objective" manner to effectively resolve your customer's problem. Having a good rapport is very important here! • Goods delivery (Retail Logistics)

Goods delivery (Retail Logistics) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:41:51 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Planning a good delivery routine helps to save time and effort! When you are limited by manpower and vehicle , it is important to maximise your trip! Here, we identified a few tips you may adopt; 1) Dedicate a day for delivery Instead of making delivery everyday to only one location, can you deliver to five locations within a day? With that, you can concentrate on other tasks since our performances are not only measured by delivery. 2) Plan your trip, know your road i) Deliver during light traffic between 9am to 5pm and 7.30pm to 8.30pm ensures we are not caught in the rush hour . ii) It is advisable not to deliver during the evening time unless urgent since it incur overtime pay and the crowd in the outlet can be difficult for us to push the trolley. Some securities might stop us from delivery as well due to policies in the mall. iii) Ensure you deliver items within the same area before moving on to the next nearest area iv) The first and last delivery should be the nearest to your warehouse v) Check the "all traffic" box in google map to identify areas of congestion and avoid them 3) Know your parking spot There are times when there is a limited parking slot for lorries, and we have to go around the area until there is a vacancy. This is time-consuming, and there is no queuing number where any lorries can enter if we are not just-in-time. What you can do is; i) If you have someone following you, get the person to speak to the driver in the parking lot by asking them to call us when they are done ii) Taking this chance, check with the driver in the parking lot if they can drive out for a moment and spare us the lot to quickly unload iii) While driving in circles, you may consider following other delivery lorries and see if they might have some "secret spot" to park their vehicle iv) Get the carpark security guard's mobile number and call them to reserve a lot 10 mins before you arrive. Some will be sporty enough to help! 4) Sign your invoices During delivery to the respective stores and outlets, remind and ensure all relevant invoices are signed. Unless we revisit the place within a few days; otherwise, we will have to drive back to get the invoices signed for accounts processing. 5) Verify with the system Depending on the company, we have to check our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to verify if relevant departments have updated the system . Otherwise, we will be held accountable for the stocks since they are under our warehouse's account, but the actual items aren't. Acquire and post job description (Recruiter) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:42:01 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! The criteria of a job is a job description, and the hiring manager has to pass it to me. 1) Understand hiring requirements before finding and shortlisting candidates. This is usually sent via an official email before I can proceed with recruiting. Important information includes; i) Rank (e.g., Executive role, Senior role, Manager role) ii) Education iii) Job description iv) Years of experience v) Nationality vi) Hiring budget 2) I will seek clarification if unclear about the job description. For example; i) Typo error that may mean differently, especially for acronyms ii) Based on our experiences with a particular role, clarify if the hiring manager is comfortable to hire fresh graduates, foreigners, or gender preferences due to the nature of the work iii) Clarify if the role should be a senior or managerial role due to the years of experience requested iv) If the hiring term is a contract with a simple job description, clarify if hiring an intern will be a better choice for them 3) For some companies, you may have to understand the hiring budget and advise if it's too low or high. 4) Once clarified, I will post job descriptions on multiple job hiring sites to attract candidates to apply. I may personally headhunt (active sourcing) if the role is a niche one. Otherwise, outsource to external recruiting companies if the timeline and skillsets is highly critical. 5) If the hiring outcome isn't favourable because the hiring requirement is very niche, I will suggest a new job description for a junior role so we can reach out to more candidates. Create Quotation (Engineering Sales) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 8 June 2021 at 4:21:41 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! A quotation will need to be revised a few rounds before the customer may accept. You may consider marking up 10% more to use it in negotiation to your last price. 3) Indicate the type of delivery terms ; i) Cost + Insurance + Freight cost (CIF) ii) ExWork / ExFactory means collection from the factory iii) Free On Board (FOB) means costs only covers freeloading onto the ship iv) how many days are required to deliver the product For more commonly used terms, click here! 4) Indicate the type of payment terms ; typically; i) Letter of Credit (LC) 30 days ii) Customers may also pay by Cash, Cash in Advance, and installment iii) If big reputable companies, we may provide payment after goods received 5) Keep in mind that the quotation process can repeat multiple times before the customer accepts and the actual payment is made. This will take quite a significant amount of time to craft, communicate, and align. Tip If you are unsure with any part of the quotation, always seek clarification with relevant department or people. Ask a manager to vet through. Never try to quote something you are unsure as this will incur huge losses for the company if managed wrongly. • Things I wish I knew to avoid getting scammed!

Things I wish I knew to avoid getting scammed! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Liberty Neo Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:59:11 am Say Hello Article How-to Guide Say Hello Share with someone you care ! I did not expect this person is a scammer!! Scams are dishonest schemes where victims are deceived, cheated, or threatened, which results in a loss. Even though we may be partially wary, falling for scams is common, especially when unsure about the situation. Here is the how-to guide to avoid these six types of scam! 1) Online scams 2) Social media scams 3) In-person scams 4) Phone / text scams 5) Mailing scams 6) Overseas scams 1) Online scams How to recognize? When an expensive product is advertised to have excellent benefits or at an unbelievably low price , you must be careful as it may be a scam. Examples are: - Poor or no reviews - No certification for safe use and consumption - Huge discounts far from the usual price - Unclear refund policy - Non-secure payment methods, such as Bitcoin or wire transfer. Unlike scams, reputable online sites will always allow you to pay by credit, debit cards, or PayPal. How to avoid? Look for product and seller reviews before purchasing anything online, even from reputable online e-commerce websites. If you are purchasing an item urgently, always think twice as the schedule may slip even though you paid more. Use more reliable transaction methods. Refrain from using virtual currencies such as Bitcoin as they do not have customer protection policy unlike other secure transaction methods such as credit, debit cards or PayPal. Before account registration, always ensure the site is not a phishing site created to steal your sensitive information . Sensitive information includes credit card details, address, IC number, usernames, and passwords. 2) Social media scams How to recognize? Scammers can create a fake identity by using personal information and pictures uploaded online by people you know. They could then use these fake or compromised accounts to trick you into giving them your personal information or money. Things to watch out for: - Accounts asking you to claim a prize - Messages that appear to come from a friend with a suspicious link - People you don't know asking you to send them money / personal information - Accounts of public figures or large companies that are not verified - People claiming to be social media security by asking you to provide account information How to avoid? Only allow accounts you trust to follow you to prevent any misuse of your personal information and photos. Do not click on suspicious links, give away money or personal information. Most importantly, do not create an account with them since you may be giving away your email and password unknowingly. Protect yourself by reviewing your security and privacy settings on your social media accounts. In the event you suspect a dubious event, report and block it. Choose passwords that are hard for others to guess . Refrain from using your NRIC, birthday, or name as your password. It would also be useful to change your password regularly . 3) In-person scams Definition In-person scams can be harder to detect because of the warm and direct involvement with the scammer. Therefore, victims will be less wary and less likely to foresee such scams. Scammers can also be persuasive in getting you to purchase a particular product or service you may not require. How to recognize? - Job scams – unclear job description, no proper work contract but with verbally-promised pay. - Modeling scams – You are stopped on the streets and asked to be a model. When you visit their office, they asked you to pay for your photo shoot so you have a professional portfolio to get you clients. - Romance scams – express strong emotions for you to gain your trust, always having reasons why money is needed urgently or not returning borrowed money on time - Investment scams – promise of high returns with low or no risks, scammers may use pressure tactics to intimidate you to invest - Membership scams – scammers may request you to pay an initial upfront fee in order to join membership, however payment has to be made through a third-party - Multi-level Marketing (MLM) scams – Not all MLM are scammers, however, some will get their members to pay an upfront fee for products they do not need. Members are then told that they can get commissions by recruiting new members; or earn passive income by inviting friends to buy products from them - Grey areas – There are many activities that appear in the grey area. For example, getting financial products that you do not need from your advisor, signing up for a financial freedom course that is not helpful to you How to avoid? - Job scams – Ensure that there is a valid contract offered by your employer. Only start work after you have signed and physically seen the contract terms and agreements. If you worked without any payment, inform the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) immediately and lodge a report against the company to prevent further such practices - Modeling scams – Ask for the most recent modeling projects the company has taken and how many consistent ones were there . This gives you information on how frequently this agency takes projects and if their cashflow is via their clients or such scams. - Romance scams – Take note of signs where your "partner" always borrows money from you without returning and giving various excuses. Always consider that this may be a scam no matter how persistent or desperate your "partner" is. Never give your bank details away! - Investment scams – All investments carry risks. Be wary of opportunities that offer high returns at little to no risk. Do not rush into committing your money by checking and clarifying before you invest. - Membership, MLM, and Grey Areas – before signing up for any products and services, always check and calculate if the product is worth your money and time - Ask yourself if you are purchasing the product for short or long-term benefits and are their alternatives better than proposed . - Do the math to rationalize your thoughts with them, be mindful that they may have other ways to make you believe in the value they proposed . - Always be firm to reject people even if you feel uncomfortable to leave or they are intimidating. You have every right to make your decisions best for you! - A right way is to tell them, "let me consider first", they will continue to be persistent, but at least you have ample time to think and act rationally . 4) Phone / text scams How to recognize? Calling and texting are platforms for scammers to leverage since people of all ages use it for convenience. Personal details can be easily given away if you are not careful, either through a phone call or by sending a simple text. Examples include: - Online betting or lottery messages which contain suspicious links - Phone calls or text messages impersonating your loved ones asking for money or personal information - Phone calls impersonating banking companies or agencies asking for money or personal information - Phone calls impersonating delivery companies to inform you that they were unsuccessful in delivering a parcel. They offer redelivery, but payment has to be made first How to avoid? - Do not give any important information such as NRIC or credit card details over a call or text. It may be for convenience but doing so puts you at risk of a scam as you have no idea who is on the other end of the call, even with the phone number displayed on your screen - Scammers could have impersonated your friends, family members, or agencies to coerce you to give out important card details . If unsure, always search up the company's website and call their official hotline to clarify again - Always be wary of suspicious text messages containing links related to online betting or lottery. Also, avoid text messages that request you to send money or personal information. Report and block these phone numbers if necessary. 5) Mailing scams How to recognize? Mailing scams include actual mail via postal services as well as emailing. Mostly, random emails are offers or advertisements, but there is a risk it could be a mail scam. Things to watch out for: Mail scammers' main goal is to get victims to send money or provide personal information . They will do so by getting your attention with enticing offers or even sending threats to make you feel intimidated. For instance, mail scams could include "requests to confirm your personal information", or "claims that you have been specially selected". This includes; - Impersonating a website, bank, or online services you have an account with - Impersonating a department from your company, especially if you are in a big MNC company How to avoid? Whenever a web link is provided, always ensure it is the same as the actual company's website . For example, If the mail is from google.com, it should not direct you to a link such as abc.com. Sometimes, the link may bear similar resemblances to the actual link as well. For example, googles.com; the extra "s" is hard to catch but will slip your eyes, assuming it is indeed from a trustable source. To reduce your risk of being scammed, remove yourself from unnecessary mailing list. As this scam applies to emails, you are highly encouraged to use two emails . One for legitimate purposes while the other for general usage. Since certain websites online require you to subscribe or create accounts using your email address, it is safer to use this general account to prevent scamming and phishing incidents. Once you recognize such letters, be sure to take cautious steps and lodge a police report. Call the company's official hotline to clarify. 6) Overseas scams How to recognize? Overseas scams are prominent because tourists can be easy targets in foreign lands. Examples include: Taxi drivers will inform you that the meter is broken and charge you a ridiculous price. Friendly scammers will stop to chat with you, giving you a free "friendship" bracelet and tie it around your wrist. Once it forms a dead knot, they will cause a scene and demand payment for the bracelet. Scammers will place paintings flat on the ground ; in the event when you accidentally step on them without looking, they will demand a hefty price Scammers could offer to take photos for you or kindly guide you to your destination before demanding you to pay them for helping. Pickpocketing scams could occur where a scammer could speak to you or cause a distraction while the accomplice will aim to pickpocket your phone or wallet. Fake police officers impersonated by scammers could request for you to show them your NRIC, passport or demand that you need to pay a fine On the other hand, romance scammers can also request you to transfer them money overseas, citing excuses for needing the money for an emergency. They often do not keep their promises and always have reasons why they cannot travel to meet you How to avoid? Be wary of strangers in a foreign land even though the country is well known to be safe. Do your research beforehand, note down the embassy's number or local police number . Never hand over your wallet or passport, even if it is the police officer. Read the situations carefully . Before entering any taxi, always negotiate the driver's fees first or ensure that the meter is working. Otherwise, purchase a taxi receipt from the taxi kiosk. If possible, always identify and ask fellow tourists to help you take pictures . Do not save any pictures of your NRIC / credit cards on your phone, even if it's for convenience purposes. This is to prevent the scammer from knowing your card details in the event your phone gets stolen . Never send money to someone you have not met before in person . Always consider that this may be a scam no matter how persistent or desperate your "partner" is Additional Tips Once you have your suspicions, immediately seek a close friend/family member for advice to help confirm if you are dealing with a scam. You may consider searching online for details of the company and its product/service to identify if the proposal is a scam. In the event of a monetary loss: - Call your bank to suspend your bank account immediately to prevent any further losses - Lodge a police report - Explain clearly the details of what happened to the bank and the police. If you have fallen into such scams before, set aside a period to mourn and reflect so you can be warier next time. Questions like; - In what ways were you not vigilant? - In what ways could you have prevented such a scam from happening again? - Why were you easily targeted? - Were things too good to be true? - Any initial signs you missed? When a customer is interested to start a project, we will bid to be the solution provider. The question however, is it worth it? Imagine, today, your manager called for a meeting and start to speak about a certain new project, you are asked to evaluate if this project is viable. Here are things you may consider; 1) Ask for tender document if there is. Tender document usually specify what the customer needs and is a good way to reference and match expectations clearly. However, you may need to work within tender period. This duration usually ranges from 1 to 3 months, or even more, depending on the scale and complexity of project. 2) If the project is yet to open tender, this means you have more time to work on it. However, you will need to identify what the customer wants to ensure the long term investment is worthwhile. 3) Usually, the criteria for engineering projects are; i) Capability - this means evaluating specifications, safety, technical expertise, and functions ii) Certification - is the system/product authorised or certified to perform in certain condition? What is its used case? iii) Conformance - is the system/product able to meet requirement set by the tender document? iv) Risk - how much liquidated damage (LD) are there in this project? Is the timeline to deliver reasonable? Do you have enough resources to make it work? 4) An interested customer will seek to arrange consecutive meetings to align expectations. • Protocol to react to customers

Protocol to react to customers Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:49:14 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! A systematic way of approaching customer concerns is essential, especially when the number of customers is overwhelming. The mode of communication varies differently based on industry. This includes email, phone calls, actual site visits, face-to-face services, and more. However, a similar trend is identified and explained below; Level 1 Level 1 customer service provides an immediate or short-notice response . The purpose here is to understand the customer's concerns, provide simple guidance, retrieve data and information, and execute routine tasks. This level of service is systematic and is dependable on how well the service provider on-the-ground sticks to it. Depending on the company's budget, most of these services are replaced by automated bots to reduce variability, human error and cut costs. Level 2 Level 2 customer service provides advance support that requires some level of thinking and decision-making to resolve slightly complex problems . These roles are usually managerial or otherwise senior roles with good technical and corporate knowledge to handle responses effectively. Level 3 Level 3 customer service provides highly customised solutions to address the customer's concerns. These people usually hold high authority in decision-making as they are usually the last line of customer service. Depending on the industry and seriousness of the situation, level 3 individuals have the power to act out of the company policies to resolve the problem. Level 4 Level 4 customer service requires more than one higher management and decision-makers to discuss and plan an extremely customised complex solution. This will require the customer to wait while the team finds ways to resolve the issue. When the problem comes to this stage, it is often related to a dire situation such as; death, substantial monetary loss, and potential tarnishing of the company's reputation. Additional Tips For software and technical issues , it is always essential to guide the customer to have the problems be replicated to help make the troubleshooting easier. For people-relationship issues , it is always essential to clarify if the solution is reasonably beneficial to both the customer and our company . Proper protocols and policies must be in place to help decision-makers decide. For example, whether to refund, replace, or pay. For a mixture of both software and people issues, it is important to reasonably understand the technical issues first and use them to explain and negotiate logically to the customer. • How to manage expectations as a teacher

How to manage expectations as a teacher Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:45:47 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! When the student is not performing, and the parent is asking why, what can I do?? As a teacher, some will say we have three bosses; student, parent, and management. How can we then manage their expectations and achieve a win-win situation for all ? Here are some ways you may consider! Student Student's expectations can be very complicated to handle. They are either; 1) driven to score well 2) felt like being forced to study 3) in between driven to score well and forced to study 4) not motivated to study because of distractions To manage their expectations, you can consider letting them feel comfortable with you first . Once they like you, they will start to pay more attention in your class. This is when it will depend on your teaching style and approach method to keep them interested and connected! For cases when students are distracted, this can cause issues. Their sources of distraction could be; peers, relationships, outside school activities, and more. When your insistence for them to follow the rules triggered their rebellious character, it can be very complicated. Getting the balance is important! Parent Parent's expectations may be complicated. They can either; 1) want their child to do well 2) demand that their child has to do well 3) curious how their child's performance is compared to others 4) for some reasons, they have to see my management To manage their expectations, it is important to let the parent understand their child's performance , typically strengths and weaknesses. Articulate examples to explain that different children perform differently, and it is essential to understand their child's mindset. When chanced upon unreasonable parents, focus the conversation on areas that you both agree. Remind yourself not to react emotionally but diplomatically in the direction of their child's well-being. If you cannot handle the situation, you need to know when to activate your management since they can enter as a "middle person" to resolve the case. Management Management's expectations can be straightforward. They will be happy as long as they see; 1) good results 2) ensure classes are conducted as planned 3) proactive and adopt continuous improvement 4) no problems are escalated to them 5) follow instructions To manage their expectations, you need to show and prove that you can execute the above. Many times, following instructions, can be an issue, and you need to explain reasonably for them to trust you. This helps build your credibility , and when difficult issues starts to escalate, your management can make a better judgment call. Do note that the problems and responsibilities of the teachers who are in school versus tuition centre can be very different. However, the solutions and the approach can still be similar. • How can I overcome the wall of resistance?

How can I overcome the wall of resistance? Brought to you by: Natural Genius Academy Content written by: Anji Hallewell Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:57:17 am Say Hello Article How-To Guide Say Hello Share with someone you care ! For progress to occur, stepping out of our comfort zones is the hardest thing to do. The reluctance to step out of our comfort zones often makes us resistant to change as it allows us to feel safe. However, resisting changes could potentially prevent us from improving and growing into better individuals. Below are three core elements to push through your doubt, fears, and worries that keep you playing a smaller game. 1) What is resistance 2) When it shows up 3) How to move beyond it 1) What is resistance The parameters to make decisions may differ depending on the amount of fear, worry, and doubts we have within us and how we choose to act upon it. In this case, our initial resistance to change knows where our comfort zone lies and the parameters surrounding it. Therefore, this resistance acts as a guardian to keep us within those boundaries and protect us from stepping out of our comfort zones. Identifying such resistance or knowing the cause of worry and fear will help you rationalize and understand that it may be just a feeling of uncertainty or overthinking. Some common thoughts may include; - Someone might disagree with me - I am not capable enough to do this - I am not sure if I will regret doing this 2) When it shows up When the guardian; “your resistance to change” shows up, the mind will think of reasons to convince you that it is safer to remain in your current state; and encourages you to stay in your comfort zone. The more you give in to this resistance, the more you are reluctant to step out to become the person you aspire to be. Once you concretize such beliefs, it projects your fear and allows you to think that: “this is impossible for me.” So, do you wish to have such resistance hampering your life or risk stepping out of your comfort zone to take control of your own life? 3) How to move beyond it We all have past experiences where we bypassed our doubts and fear to accomplish things we wish to do. So, what inspires this sudden drive? It is usually an impactful event that spurs us forward to be brave enough to overcome that certain fear. However, do you wish to always be in such stressful situations? To move beyond this, you have to acknowledge that resistance exists, just like how both opponents in Dojo, a form of martial arts, will look at each other in the eyes. Only by acknowledging one another, they can then know and predict each other’s next move. Similarly, you have to acknowledge and overcome your resistance by assessing it rationally and telling yourself that your fears are invalid by having a solution to it. You can then step out of your comfort zone with confidence . This will allow you to take advantage of your own potential and progress! Testimonials I found out that my life has been very messy, which affected my productivity. Anji's programme gave a deeper look into myself which has really benefited me. The thing I took away was how practical the exercises were. I could practice at work or at home. I just needed 2 or 3 mins of time to get myself back to the center. So, far it's worked out very well for me, as I am an overthinker and it really disrupts my work Brian, School Manager I found myself very caught up in to-do lists, negative thoughts and harsh judgements on myself. I was easily overwhelmed and missing out on fun experiences. I'd used a few apps in the past but I didn't really know how to take it into the real world. After, I found myself more in touch with what was going on. I was able to identify how I was feeling in situations and able to accept or change them. I felt calmer and I had the ability to cope with unpleasant situations, as well as, being mindful and present for all the fun things too. Sally, Advertising Executive I took the programme because i wanted to better understand what to do when i felt anxious. after the programme, I feel like I can better regulate my thoughts and emotions which has helped me not just at work but in my personal life. I'd like to recommend this programme for those who'd like to better understand how their mind works, to regulate their emotions and would like to be more self-aware. • After JC/POLY, what's next? We have suggestions for you!

After JC/POLY, what's next? We have suggestions for you! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:57:31 am Say Hello Article Awareness Say Hello Share with someone you care ! While most students’ first thought after JC/POLY would be to play all day, the long, nearly eight months break will leave you much more time to embark on interesting journeys. Plan your time carefully and make the best out of this well-deserved break before the busy studying begins again! Here are five activities you can do to make full use of your break! 1) Work 2) Skills upgrade 3) Relationship building 4) Overseas travel 5) National Service 1) Work - Did part-time before but could not commit more than two months? Wanted to intern at companies but was too busy with studies to do so? Now, it is the perfect time to have a more realistic taste of the working world ! - While working or interning for the industries you aspired to be in can be fun, re-consider and re-confirm your previous aspirations . Could you foresee yourself working in that same sector for long? If your schedule allows, take up a few different jobs to evaluate which suits you the best. - Being able to work long-term now with a monthly wage also allows you to begin picking up skills to manage personal finances and savings . It is never too early to save for rainy days or even invest to grow your wealth! ----- Additional Tip ----- - Job opportunities can be obtained via online job-seeking platforms, and internships are commonly gained via personal connections or companies’ outreach programs through your school. - Establish connections early to secure competitive opportunities. - When seeking jobs online, beware of scammers and avoid disclosing sensitive, personal information. Prioritise personal safety. 2) Skills upgrade i) After studying for more than half your life, it is time to pick up new skills or upgrade current ones to remain relevant to the fast-changing world . ii) New skills can include; - Learning a new language that is commonly used worldwide - Coding for robotics, websites or to use mathematical tools to do AI - Grow your hobby into a professional skill, for example; video-editing, cooking ----- Additional Tip ----- - Equip yourself with new skills by tapping on technology. There are many online videos that provide free lessons and tips. - Get your hands dirty by trying out so you can start to hone these skills immediately! If you are a traditional learner, sign up for physical lessons at private academies or community centres if you seek an economical option! 3) Relationship building - During studying, time was mostly spent on studying, and time with family and friends had to be sacrificed at times. Now, it will be heart-warming to spend time with your precious loved ones before your hectic university life starts, especially if you are planning to stay on campus for long. - It will be good to maintain your friendships forged in JC/Poly to ensure that you will have a support system to fall back on even when you might have separated ways for your tertiary studies. - Apart from existing relationships, form new ones as well to expand your social circle further. This trains your communication with people too, preparing you well for university, which would be unfamiliar. ----- Additional Tip ----- - You do not have always to wait for the other party to take the first step. - Take the initiative to organise a meet up to sustain your friendships. - Step out of your comfort zone to join new communities or volunteering opportunities to meet new like-minded individuals. Meetup.com is a good website for this! 4) Overseas travel - You can make use of a long holiday to go on a solo or group graduation trip as well. - This gives you a glimpse of independent living, which will be more relevant as you grow older. You would also be exposed to planning (with possibly a tight budget) and executing; these are skills that apply to the working world as well. - Being alone in an unfamiliar environment may help to unravel some discoveries and realisations that could have a huge impact on you. Some include “Seizing the moment”, “Keeping an open mind”. - Being overseas with friends may allow you to discover new sides of your friends and yourself . Going through the experience together can strengthen the bonds between all of you. ----- Additional Tip ----- - Personal safety should be the first priority at all times. Take extra caution to plan and know the destination well. - Some people may face parents’ objection at the start due to the risks involved. What you can do is to prove to your parents that you are matured and able to act like a young adult. Never overestimate your abilities, and always think of contingency plans for the worst-case scenarios. 5) National Service - It is mandatory for all Singaporean sons to serve National Service (NS) after their first pre-university schooling, such as JC/Poly. - While waiting for your enlistment letter, you may want to look at the available vocations that align with your interest since you will spend 2 years in it. To know more, visit https://www.cmpb.gov.sg/web/portal/cmpb/home/life-in-ns/saf/after-basic-training - Then, build your physique to prepare yourself for this vocation! - Have a mindset that 2 years serving National Service is about trying out new and fun experiences such as shooting rifle, throwing grenade and other activities that comes with the vocation; driving tanks, participating in overseas exercises and more. - Character building is also important as it allows you to work as a team, manage unreasonable situations, and learn how to be humble. ----- Additional Tip ----- You may also want to consider to serve as a Regular, in other words, “sign on” as they can; - Sponsor you for your studies - Award you with a sign-on bonus - Provide a starting salary better than the market rate However, you have to consider your interest and commitment. You may visit - Career fairs or related fairs to seek clarifications - Serve as a non-regular first to understand if this career is indeed what you like You may also like I have a hard time working with my team in group projects. How to use FengShui 5 elements to your benefits? Brought to you by: Max Liang FengShui Content written by: Max Liang Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:56:57 am Say Hello Article Awareness Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Five elements, namely Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, has been the cornerstone of Chinese Metaphysics and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The balance of the five elements denotes a balance of the body , thereby leading to a balanced life and health. Because of interdependencies between elements, any excess or insufficiency will affect its cycle leading to undesirable situations. To know more about the representations of 5 elements, click here to download a complementary illustration by Master Max. Hence, the art of balancing is shared here so you can adopt and understand how this can better help you. Benefits include being able to identify intrinsic health issue and enhance health and success. The production cycle is Earth produces Metal Metal produces Water Water produces Wood Wood produces Fire Fire produces Earth Cycle continues The destruction cycle is Metal destroys Wood Wood Destroys Earth Earth destroys Water Water Destroys Fire Fire Destroys Metal Cycle continues Case study 1 Client's career is not smooth-sailing because she lack trustworthy support from co-workers at work. During a conversation with her, she seems timid and worrisome. She also fears to take on new challenges and responsibilities at work. From this, we can infer she lacks water elements since water's negative emotions are associated with worry and fear. This fear hinders her from taking on responsibilities, thus affecting her career. To boost her courage and help her take on a more proactive approach, advice was given for her to consume more tonic to support her Kidney since Kidney is the representative organ of water element. Since Earth element destroys water, we would like to reduce her Earth element to reduce her worry and fear. Advice was given for her to consume ginger supplements to warm up her liver, which is a wood element. (since wood element reduces her excess of Earth). To create change, my client’s mindset is important as this effectively impact mind-body balance. I explained to her the importance of being opened and receptive to ideas and practice seeing things with positivity. Results Due to the effectiveness of mind-body treatment, client is able to improve both mental and physical health. Her performance at work place has also improved. Case study 2 Requested to look at Fengshui in client’s house and upon questioning realized; 1) Client has consistent pain in the leg 2) Client’s mother has rheumatism (inflammation and pain in joints and muscles) A two signs of excess of water element in the family as bone problems are associated with water. Through observation, we can see that a pond extends from outside into the center of the house, and the house faces North which welcomes water energy. This explains why the client is experiencing an excess of water. 1) To resolve, advice was given to removed water in the pond and sealed it. 2) Next, construct a wooden platform that extends from the center of the house to the exterior as wood element can improve life vitality and create balance in the usage of elements.
