When you have a technical drawing, you will not miss out any details! In civil engineering drawing, the basic concepts you need to take note are; 1) Type of engineering plans The common plans are; i) Location plan which indicates the construction area and its surroundings ii) Block plan, plot plan or site plan indicates details about the construction area such as building footprint, driveways, elevations, staging area (storage area) and more. iii) Foundation plan indicates the key dimensions for critical structural supports, pillars or columns at the ground level (lowest part of the building) iv) Framing plans indicates how each structural frames are connected to form flooring, ceiling or roofing depending on the purpose of the drawing v) Elevation drawings indicates primarily on the vertical height dimension for railings, windows, doors, furnitures and more. Depending on requirement, length and width may be provided vi) Floor plan indicates primarily on the horizontal length and breadth dimensions . This includes the location and size of a room, path of a door, staircase, elevator, travelator and more vii) Electrical plan indicates how the electrical components are connected 2) Mentality when approaching a drawing i) Engineering drawing often comes as a set or as multiple sheets to provide a "holistic perspective" of the construction. They are top-down . In civil engineering, it starts from Location plan to Site plan (or Block plan) to other plans such as floor plan, foundation plan, and more ii) You should be able to identify the scale of a drawing to ensure measurements follows the engineering drawings iii) It is important you identified the meanings behind abbreivations, views, alphabetic symbol, numeric symbol, shapes of symbol and more iv) You should be able to identify the datum or reference point of the drawing to ensure dimensions during the process is kept to a standard v) You should be well aware of the constaints in dimension especially when transporting large items. This is important on a logistical planning perspective vi) There may be times when the drawing did not foresee certain problems on the ground and it is important to verify and ensure the drawing is rectified and certified before proceeding. Once your design concept is ready, it is time to prototype This process helps us identify errors that we are not able to capture in the CAD software. Here, we identify the good practices; 1) For easy to purchase parts, we will source from online e-commerce platforms such as RS-Component, Digi-key, Element14, and Amazon. For bolts and other components that we can get locally and cheaply, we will do so. 2) For items that require fabrication, for example, chassis, wheel adapter, and brackets, I will; - Create 2d drawing from created 3d models and label with part number, indicate the manufacturing process, which includes dimensions, tolerances, welding, bending, cutting. A BOM list is necessary. - Request for Quotation (RFQ) from 3 different suppliers if the price is predicted to be above SGD 500 depending on your company. (usually termed as 3 quotes). 3) Once all items are ready, assemble, test fit and analyse. What you should look for are; i) Hole alignments between interfacing components are correctly done ii) Space optimisation iii) Safety in functionality and how to reduce operational risks iv) Cables and wirings are routed neatly with ease, holes to mount electrical and electronics components are correct. Depending on your company's culture, get an electrical engineer in your team to handle this since they are more familiar with their work 4) Test the system rigorously in the environment you need it to be. You should capture any errors in your mechanical design and propose improvements later on. 5) If your design is the cause of error for electrical and electronic components, such as mounting and securing, you will need to rectify them. Tips Usually, there is a "first article" design which means to fabricate first prototype for error catching. Subsequent prototyping are feature refinement based on feedbacks by relevant stakeholders When we do product demonstrations to prospects, we will also receive feedbacks on how to improve the features to the market needs. Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:59:19 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! I don't understand why K-POP is so attractive! If you are once a fan of a music group or a singer, you might understand why your child is so attracted to them. The reason is, your child had built a relationship with these musicians. We have identified five types of K-POP fan your child might be 1) Awakened Newbie 2) Material & Merchandise (M&M) 3) Know It All 4) Loyal Workaholic 5) Inspired Artist 1) Awakened Newbie Have you observed a sudden change in your child's behavior, such as; - Singing or humming Korean songs - Watching Korean variety of channels - Browsing K-pop articles This could be a sign that they have developed a new interest, and we call them, "Awakened Newbie " Note that at this stage, they will slowly develop to become the types discussed later. ----- How can I speak to my child? ----- This will be the best time to connect with them and understand what they like as they will be excited to share. You may start by asking, "Who is this person? He or she looks talented, or the music they make sounds good!". They will be likely to share more. 2) Material & Merchandise (M&M) Have you seen posters of unfamiliar faces, mugs, light sticks, and banners in your child's room? If yes, they could be "Material & Merchandise (M&M) ". Some fans believe that they could have a sense of attachment and help fund their idol by buying their merchandise. ----- How can I speak to my child? ----- With an open mind, develop curiosity in their purchased items. You may start by asking, "Who is this person on the poster? The poster looks good" Never turn this into an interrogation such as "why did you spend so much money?" 3) Know It All Fans who know their idols inside out are called “Know-it-all ”. Some examples include knowing their - Favorite color, food, hobby, and more - Recent news - Latest photos and videos ----- How can I speak to my child? ----- Know the name of their favorite idol and use recent news about them to spark meaningful conversation . Be the listening ear to learn more rather than criticizing because their idol has certain bad traits such as; tattoo, rebellious outlook, and more. 4) Loyal Workaholic “Loyal Workaholic ” are those who spent time to; - Maintain an online fan page - Create and edit videos and pictures to attract more fans - Create games to interact with other fans - Create multiple accounts to vote for their idol to clinch music awards Since they are loyal supporters, they find happiness and satisfaction from these actions. ----- How can I speak to my child? ----- Be interested to understand and improve their work, praise what is good. In a comfortable way, slowly let them know they should also focus on their academics. 5) Inspired Artist Did you observe that your child started dancing, singing, and occasionally speaking in an unfamiliar language? They are potentially an “Inspired artist”. They will start signing up for courses for singing, dancing, and Korean classes. When you observe their behavior at home or ask you for money for these courses, this is a clear indication they are inspired to be similar to their idol. ----- How can I speak to my child? ----- It would be good to be open and curious about the kind of interests they are into, such as the style of dancing and singing techniques. They will be excited to share. With the name of these styles, you can search online to understand further and generate more conversational topics. Additional Tip Your child might seem overly confident and proud of sharing their idol, and this is normal. However, you should not be affected by the way they speak and behave. If their actions are unacceptable, you may consider letting them know at a mood they are comfortable in first before starting yelling at them. Most importantly, never bring out your dissatisfaction about their hobby during quarrels! You may also like My partner doesn't feel loved. What should I do? Brought to you by: Raymond Wong Content written by: Raymond Wong Last Updated: 8 June 2021 at 4:20:55 am Say Hello Article Awareness Say Hello Share with someone you care ! CPF life payout is a national insurance annuity scheme whereby you will start receiving money from your CPF savings at the age of 65 onwards. When you reach 65 with a minimum CPF savings of S$60,000, you will be automatically enrolled. Based on research conducted across Asia, most people overestimated their retirement funds and realised they have depleted it half way during their retirement. This becomes an issue because they have to worry about finances during retirement. So, what are 2 questions that you should be asking about retirement and how can we address them? Let’s find out! Question 1 - How much money do I need to retire comfortably? What is your definition of a comfortable retirement? Do you only want to have a basic income just to survive 3 meals a day? Or, do you fancy more; such as giving extra pocket money to your future grandchildren, buy gifts for your friends and even traveling. What about medical cost? So, what is considered enough? Based on Singstat (click here) , an average monthly household expenditure for age 50-59 is about S$4837 and S$3,586 for those above 60. This is really high! Besides, this data is compiled in 2016. Imagine factoring inflation each year at 2% for 20 years, this amount can easily hit above S$6,000. Question 2 - Is the payout of CPF life enough for me to retire? Imagine you place in S$60,000 at age 65 in year 2035, based on the estimator provided from CPF (click here ), you will be expected to receive an estimate monthly of S$530 to S$600. Will this be viable for your monthly living 20 years later? Now, what if you wish to have a monthly payout of around S$3,000? You will have to place in around S$400,000 to S$510,000 at age 65 in year 2035. Will you be having this amount in your CPF savings? Given this scenario, if you need at least S$3,000 per month, with CPF Life providing you with a minimum of S$600, what can you do to achieve the remaining S$2,400 for your retirement paycheck? 1) Start your retirement plan early Planning comes from understanding and it is essential you have an aim what you wish to do during retirement. What kind of lifestyle do you wish to live? How much money is enough for potential future medical bills? You can start by identifying the percentage of unnecessary expenses that you spend monthly. You should also identify bad debts that fall in value the moment you purchase them. These items will not be useful and the monies can then be reuse into your retirement plan which we will discuss in the next section. However, before this, it is important you should have a proper protection plan to keep your fixed income stable in the event that your health forbids you to work anymore. 2) Select an appropriate instrument Depending on your risk appetite and personal preferences, there are multiple instruments that you can consider for your retirement plan. There are two forms of income engines, the fixed income (employment or business income) and the passive income; which in our case, investment. The investment plan that you decide should beat the rate of inflation and maximise your earnings across time. Here are 4 types of policies you can consider; i) Dollar Cost Averaging DCA If you wish to have a stable investment return of around 3% to 5% per annum, dollar cost averaging may be an instrument you can consider. This instrument is a monthly plan and is suitable to take up if you do not have a huge sum of money and not to worry about market volatility. This plan is recommended for a duration of 10 to 15 years in order to see good returns. Therefore, starting young is important! ii) Lumpsum investment If your risk appetite is larger, and intend to have around 6% to 8% per annum, you may consider lumpsum investment or some may call it, Allocation. In this case, it is important to ensure there is a regular rebalancing of your portfolio to keep up with market volatility. iii) Mixture of DCA and lumpsum investment A good mix of both dollar cost averaging and lumpsum investment can be a good way to diversify your portfolio and enjoy the best of both worlds. iv) Premium financing You can also consider premium financing if you have a larger sum of more than S$45,000 looking to invest. This plan allows you to leverage by investing with a higher premium policy but with a lower initial down payment. For example, you sign up a S$350,000 investment plan, your initial down-payment will be S$100,000 and the rest will be co-share with the bank. Depending on your preferences, after the end of the policy, you may choose to receive payout from your investment or to continue to earn the interest. 3) Government-Supported Policies As we are moving towards Ageing population, the Singapore government is providing more support to help you retire early and help with your fixed income in the event of mishap. Here are 2 areas you may consider; i) Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) You may consider allocating a part of your annual income to Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) to enjoy tax rebate. However, the interest is 0.05% and you can only withdraw after 10 years from the date of your first penalty-free withdrawal which is at age 62. The maximum annual sum to place into SRS for Singapore citizen is S$15,300 and S$35,700 for Foreigners. You may consider this plan to achieve a double-win in savings for your retirement and from your tax contribution. To know more, you can click here . ii) Care Shield Life Care shield life previously also called Elder shield is a long-term insurance scheme devised to provide for Singaporeans citizens and PRs who are 30 years and above with a basic S$600 monthly support in the event that they are severely disabled. All Singaporean citizen will be automatically enrolled into this policy once they turned 30 and their premiums will be deducted annually via MediSave. The amount deducted starts from around S$250 per year from age 30 and increases to less than around S$500 when you reach age 67. However, a basic monthly support of S$600 might not be enough to help out with your fixed income in the event of mishap. Hence, Care Shield Life Premium can be considered where most of the annual premium can still be deducted via Medisave with some amount payable by cash. What should I consider when choosing a business partner? Here are 6 tips! Brought to you by: Sherman Foo Content written by: Sherman Foo Last Updated: 8 June 2021 at 4:21:01 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! A reliable partnership depends on the partner you choose! Technically, a business partner is a commercial party, who initiates an alliance with someone who has a common business interest to pursue. This relationship is contractual in nature that commits both of them into the business. In this article, we will share 6 important tips when choosing a business partner. 1) Credibility Do not rush into a partnership before you establish trust with your partner. Have you done background checks on this person? Does this person share the same business vision and goal with you for short and long term? Is the business approach viable? Can this person work with you in worst-case scenarios? It is often that we are blinded by the excitement of partnership that we forgot the rational implementations. Always establish clear understanding before making a partnership decision. 2) Quantity of partners A business venture can have more than one business partner. However, the more the partners, the more difficult it is to implement a decision since everyone has differences in opinion. It is important when selecting more than one partner, always ask; How useful is this partnership to the business? Are there alternatives? Is there a good chemistry between these partners? What percentage should this partner be getting? Will other partners be agreeable to this? There’s a saying “too many cooks spoil the soup”. Always communicate with existing partners and understand different point of views before getting in more partners. 3) Responsibility A partnership should include clear duties, responsibilities and who manages which area of the business. This provides clarity when conflicts arise and avoid any misunderstandings. Also, who can authorise and sign on company’s behalf have to be explicitly defined to avoid confusion when anyone in the company seeks approval to execute something, especially in the form of funds. This also includes unanimous voting as well for business situations requiring decisions of partners to be made collectively. How these arrangements should be done has to be determined right at the start! 4) Bookkeeping and finances Any contributions in terms of time, assets, money have to be clarified and stated clearly. This affects profits and compensations derived from various business partners and should be explained with clarity in the form of properly signed documentations. All forms of profits, losses and taxes should also be consistently documented for bookkeeping to ensure accountability. This also allow partners to have a channel to better understand the company’s situation in a transparent manner. 5) Exit terms In the possible event of a business closure, the partners also need to be clear on how to conduct an exit strategy and determine the manner of dissolution of the partnership agreement. This facilitates a smooth transition. Sometimes, a partner would choose to end the partnership either voluntarily or involuntarily along the way and therefore the agreement has to cater to such a change too. This applies to other situations like partner expulsion due to unsatisfactory performance or non-competing agreement for terminated partners to disallow them to conduct similar businesses as a competitor. The scope of work and time of duration of compliance should be specified clearly to protect this business venture. Hence, any legal issue arose from events like this or future partnership disagreements to settle in or out of court has to be clarified in the documentation. All of this would ensure the partnership begins and ends with the right expectation in order to handle the business in the best possible way for the partners. 6) Legal Documentation With all the above factors identified, having a legal team to manage this partnership is essential. The lawyer should specify all agreements and go through them together with the partners. And upon the consent of these partners, signature must be present. A few key points to note when you do these documentations are; i) If the partner has a spouse, he or she has certain ownership to the business, so in case of a divorce, a legal arrangement has to be made contractually to settle that scenario. Pay close attention to the contractual details from the partner in order to ensure both parties agree on stated terms where everything has been laid out in the open. ii) Who has the right to authorise the movement of funds, how many partners are required to make a decision, how can the voting be done and under what scenarios will it be voided? iii) Who has how many percent of the business? In the event of an acquisition and investment scenario, how will the ownership be affected? It is always important to be mindful that proper documentation and scrutiny of the partnership details affects the business. Improper management can result in unnecessary conflicts which may not be beneficial to the progress of the business venture. If you are keen to know more, let's get connected ! Depending on the company, there are deliveries of containers from overseas to the warehouse at different intervals. When a container arrives, I have to; 1) Check and verify the container number to ensure the correct container arrives at my warehouse. 2) Before unloading, check if there are any fragile or expensive items in the container by verifying with its packing list . If there are expensive items, unload them first and immediately keep them in a safe place, followed by fragile items. 3) Always check the quality of goods to ensure there are no broken parts , especially for fragile items. If there are defects, take a photo and send it immediately to Department Supervisor who ordered the items and update the Account Manager and General Manager about any expensive items. I will also email the situation to the warehouse supervisor from overseas. Occasionally, I will provide advice on how to pack the items to prevent such incidents from happening. 4) For food items, I have to ensure there is a laboratory report to prove they are safe for use, supervised under AVA and HSA Singapore. 5) Unload all products to a holding area to check quantity ; pack, replenish and schedule delivery to the relevant departments. 6) Clean the container after unloading; otherwise, the container provider will have the right to fine us SGD 500 to 700. Initial prospect meeting (Financial Advisor) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:43:10 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! When the prospect meets for the second time, we can consider them to have interest in the product. In this appointment, we need to find and craft the most suitable financial proposal for the client. 1) I will start the appointment by showing them what I have previously promised to research and propose ideas regarding the product/investment platform. 2) I rarely have clients who have no questions and sign straight away, but there is. 3) For prospects who have doubts, I will ask, listen and acknowledge their reasons for holding back. While listening, I will ask questions to guide them to look at how the proposed products could help them from a different perspective. Signs like nodding their head and listening attentively shows they are interested in further discussion. 4) If prospects are still uncertain, I will allow them to have some time to think or, if not, speak to their family members. I will then set up the next meeting 1 or 2 weeks later to discuss it again. 5) If meetings are more than two times , try to understand what is holding them back. Never rush to a conclusion since this will put the client in a defensive position. Always be professional and never judge the client’s ability to afford the premium. 6) When a prospect’s initial application is rejected due to their past medical histories and/or existing conditions , our company's underwriter may request our prospect to pay for a higher premium. I will then have to explain this to my prospect and assess if they are comfortable with the new proposal. If they are not interested, I will do my best to provide alternative solutions so they can be insured and feel comfortable with the premiums (or payment). Lead Creation (Machinery Sales) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 8 June 2021 at 4:21:29 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! We need to generate leads to help us link up and share our products with the prospect, thus making sales. Here are some useful practices you may want to adopt; 1) Based on the type of machine I am selling and the end product it produces, I will search for relevant companies who may be potential users and note if they are seeking expansion . This is a sign that they will buy new machines and hence I will approach them. 2) I will make a competitor analysis by finding the price of product, mutuality, and availability in the market to assess whether making a market entry is feasible. With this certainty, I can then implement strategies accordingly to conduct my business development. This includes; i) types of product they intend to produce ii) the monetary amount awarded for their project venture iii) value projection of the market iv) Country for their new setup and their potential partners v) companies that they acquired vi) directions of their next move 3) Distributing agents usually will contact me via LinkedIn. I will keep an open mind to allow them to sell our products in their market. If they can perform well in the market, we will work together. However, I will need to set ground rules to ensure they follow our professionalism since they represent our brand. 4) If the customer only needs one or two of our machines as we target the mass market, we will create marketing campaigns and SEO to be easily searchable online . We will also participate in networking events related to our industry to promote our presence. We will need our distributing agents to do the same in their respective markets. Tips 1) It is important to track the performance of distributing agents. This allows you to review the partnership whether it is beneficial. You can also have logical reasons behind how you award these agents if they are in the same market. 2) Always be willing to cut off uncooperative distributing agents or those that do not perform well. This can save time for both parties to find better endeavors. 3) Ensure that your agent has a standard procedure in carrying out their business when representing you to avoid reputation issues due to their misbehavior. An agent will be penalised straightaway when they; i) badmouth and criticise our products ii) Steal from our client iii) are unresponsive and uncooperative as if they aren't our agent You may also like Skillsets to close a sales Traveling Overseas (Machinery Sales) General Admin (Machinery Sales) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. - Marketing for apparels (Fashion)
With this information, we can style our models based on the needs of the fashion industry to remain relevant in the market Marketing for apparels (Fashion) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:44:45 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Identifying the trend allows us to be more easily identified by the intended market. Here, we identified how we could keep a lookout to ride along with these fashion trends; 1) Research We looked for the latest market and fashion trends from the last six months . We will; i) gather reference from WSGN fashion ; a website to observe and analyze fashion trends and upcoming market releases ii) browse fashion magazines like Vogue, Nylon, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, and more to supplement our research iii) With this information, we can style our models based on the needs of the fashion industry to remain relevant in the market You will need to have good attention to details such as identifying colours used, lighting and shadow, angle, model's physique, accessories 2) Understand We must understand each fashion trend's intention to advise on how to style the model, direct the photoshoot and advertise later on. Here, the skillsets we look at are; i) proportion of the pictures in relevance to the clothing, for example, if it is a dress, should the image be showing full body shots of the person or 3/4? ii) colours of the surroundings, a great contrast between colours create right focus and attraction. This has to suit the theme , which will determine if the shots have to be taken outdoors or indoors. iii) based on the theme, you should also understand an appropriate match to the facial expression, types of poses, kinds of makeup, and model physique required. iv) your experience should also tell you the type of fabric, colour and shape of the apparel, key features such as; (zip, button) and accessories required when shooting 3) Style and photoshoot i) Accessories can be rented or borrowed from the company's collection to suit the photoshoot theme. ii) We ensure that the model's clothing, accessories, hairstyle, and footwear can match well together to bring out the feature and element of the apparel iii) Location of the shoot should be pre-determined and booked. Budgeting has to come into play as studio can be very expensive. iv) We can recommend which area of the apparel to focus and the type of angles preferred. This is related to key features of the apparel. The ability to create a good match for the photoshoot is a test of our skillset. 4) Advertise From the research, we need to identify trending keywords to capture the attention of potential customers. The keywords usually have to describe; i) key features of the clothing such as water-repellent, knitted, ribbed, fleece, zip, button and more. ii) focused areas are, collar, sleeves, cuffs, pockets, straps, and more. Tips 1) style the models by replicating, adding, subtracting, and/or mixing ideas from your research to bring out the elements of the referenced trend 2) ability to describe key features with indicative photos of the apparel is important 3) ability to match and promote accessories together with the apparel is a plus 4) ability to manage photoshoots for multiple apparels is a good test of your management skill You may also like Planning for marketing strategy Maintain E-commerce website (Fashion) Generating monthly marketing report Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. There is a Free Rider in my group in Poly!! What should I do?! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Sophie Ong Last Updated: 31 May 2021 at 4:35:30 am Say Hello Article How-to Guide Say Hello Share with someone you care ! There are many group projects that plays a huge percentage in your subject grade. And, there may be free riders in the group who are irresponsible and are not doing their part. We have identified four ways to help you cope with those free riders! 1) Assign easier tasks 2) Confrontation 3) Report to The Lecturer 4) Take the Responsibility 1) Assign Easier Tasks Everyone in the group will be given a part to do for the group project. Assigning easy tasks to the free riders may get them to do the minimal amount of work for the group. These tasks may include work that requires less research and take less time to complete. When should I assign easier tasks? - When your groupmate is - unmotivated and lazy - seems uninterested - constantly seeks help (but not a free-rider) Providing work that requires minimal effort may be a solution - If your groupmate openly state that they only want to do minimal work 2) Confrontation In group settings, take some time after class to speak to this free-rider. Before you decide to confront , always understand the reasons behind the person’s non-contributing behaviour. Show that this conversation is a form of warning message before the team inform the lecturer about the incomplete work. Based on the team's dynamic, persuade the person to submit an appropriate work before the next deadline. When should I confront? - If this free-rider still does not complete the assigned work despite constant reminders through texts and does not reply to the team - If this free-rider gives obvious excuses not to join group calls or group meetings without a valid reason (e.g. have an appointment despite a group meeting arranged beforehand). 3) Report to The Lecturer Reach out to your lecturer, and appropriate actions will be taken accordingly . Also, when assigning the project grades, the lecturer may be more understanding in awarding grades fairly to the respective group members. When should I report to the lecturer? - After you have confronted this free-rider and the performance was not improved, such as; majority of tasks assigned are incomplete, not showing up in most of the group meetings and ignored most of our request to complete assigned tasks. - A tip would be to discuss with other groupmates before reporting to the lecturer together. This will show the lecturer that your group is serious about the project and team cohesiveness, and when it is affecting more than one person, it is a clear sign this is an issue that needs to be resolved. 4) Take the Responsibility Despite having a free rider, the group project still has to be completed , and someone will have to manage the free-rider’s work. You may have to take up the responsibility to complete this work or split it among your other groupmates who are willing to contribute. When should I take responsibility? - When the group project is still incomplete 1 week before the submission date. This is also an urgent period when the group should be working cohesively to complete the leftover work. (The usual case in Polytechnic). Otherwise, the group is simply forsaking the project. - When the quality of work done does not meet requirement and the majority of groupmates are unconcerned about it. - If there is presentation on top of the report submission, you will also need to remind the team to complete it. Never wait till the last hour when all of you are lacked of sleep while rushing the project and making careless mistakes. To wrap up… The best method is to group with people who are serious and responsible in their work. At times, we may not be able to choose our groupmates and active communication must always be present in the group. This means by motivating and listening to each other and consistently sending reminders to complete a milestone! If the situation does not improve, we may have to put in a little more effort than others . At the end of the day, our grades are at stake and we should do whatever it takes even if it is to do another person’s work. Being reasonable, responsible and determined are the 3 important traits when working with people. We hope this message get across well to you! How McDonalds recovered from the food scare in 2015 Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: JP Tan Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:58:31 am Say Hello Article Case Studies Say Hello Share with someone you care ! In 2015, McDonald’s took a plunge in their sales number due to food scare in China and Japan. Primarily due to contaminated meat being processed in their supplier’s factory in China, referenced from Forbes . To regain confidence in consumers, McDonald’s adopted a series of restructuring and quality control in various segments. Using WE Development's Demand-Supply Improvised (DSI) model , let us look at how McDonalds implemented positive change! 1) Retain consumer’s confidence 2) Acquire reliable resources 3) Concentrating on their demand 1) Reflected in DSI model – Retention First, McDonald’s has various retention plans in place. Right after the scandal, Japan McDonald’s immediately switch suppliers by using chickens from Thailand. In China, despite other big players leaving this common supplier; OSI Group, McDonald’s chose to stay with their key supplier by addressing their plans logically, using a different Chinese plant of theirs as they believed meat quality is still the key. Also, in the same year, McDonald’s announced to use chickens without antibiotics. This has a significant effect on regaining trust so big that other food chains like KFC and Subways are forced to position themselves with non-anti-biotics meat. Second, McDonald’s has communicated this model publicly, showing their determination in implementing change . Third, they continued to listen, revise, and refine . They were not letting the same mistakes to happen again. In 2017, McDonald’s decided to shut down nearly 170 outlets in India after food standard issues was found with their Indian franchise. 2) Reflected in DSI model – Resource First, McDonald’s openness has enabled them to find grounds for using chicken meat that does not have anti-biotics. Second, they have validated that using chickens without anti-biotics is a health benefit to her consumers, which is reflected in various health articles easily accessible online. Third, they pledged and have acted to work towards using chicken meat without anti-biotics. They have successfully done it. 3) Reflected in DSI model - Demand First, McDonald’s decided to be closer to their demand by identifying local strategic partners to franchise their business. In Japan, they are already close to their demand and have started to look at price and menu suitable to their consumers. Secondly, McDonald’s listened and priortised their customer’s demand. In Japan, they listened and prioritised working on their Quality, Service, and Cleanliness (QSC) as this is the direct message to regain trust after the meat scandal. In China, they priortised by working with local partners to identify critical strategic points to regrow their China market share. Third, to act swiftly , in 2017, McDonald’s has agreed to make a partnership with a local partner for their China and Hong Kong business. In 2016, Japan McDonald’s revised its menu priority on cheaper alternatives and suiting the local appetites. Budgeting for engineering projects for school Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:51:15 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! When given a fund, we need to propose to management our implementation idea to achieve an objective. The relevant steps include; 1) Speak to each module chairman or project leader to understand what they need by; - asking for list of items they need - understanding their objectives - managing their expectations between budget versus implementation 2) I will compile a list of tasks and start to engage vendors to Request For Quotation (RFQ). A timeline has to be set to ensure plans are well-executed. This also includes planning for the start-to-end lifetime of certain key expensive components. - for larger projects that are above 50,000SGD, we will usually open tender - for simple tasks, I will allocate the job to executives while providing guidance and support whenever needed - for unclear budget allocation due to different modules sharing the same fund, I will handle them by setting common criteria between them and set seperate smaller funds for subjective module requests. This process will take time and it is important to ensure all modules achieve a win-win fund . - it is important to set funds for maintenance and replacement to ensure continuity of plan. You need to consider warranty period, manhours, and minor component replacements. 3) During budget allocation, all the decisions made must have clarity in implementation and must be thought through in order to convince management . Key mindset is always to balance between budget and effectiveness after implementation . If required, we may request for more budget subjected to case by case basis. 4) Once approved, we will execute the budgeting plan and ensure they are carried out accordingly.
