Arrange and host meetings (Machine Sales) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:38:55 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! This meeting is conducted to prove to customers that we are always around when they need us. Here are a few tips for you to do well; 1) Hosting new and potential customers in our factory/office/lab allows them to understand; i) the manufacturing process of our machines ii) vet their purchased machines iii) introduce our technical service team in person iv) capabilities of our machines by demonstrating 2) Arrange for new and potential customers to visit our existing customer's factory . However, permission has to be given by the existing customer. This method provides; i) actual proof that our machines are operating well ii) let our existing customer speak for us iii) positive interactions can occur between 2 or more customers to learn and share how to improve each other's processes. Good rapport with existing clients is then beneficial in this case. 3) If both new and existing customers are located in the same country, and I traveled there, I will arrange a meeting with them to connect. The purpose is to allow these customers to connect and see if they may potentially work together . 4) If your company's factory is located overseas and you are coincidentally there, you may have to help the design team assist the certification bodies such as ISO and CE to host and arrange for the machines' testing. This is also a good chance to build your network while you bring them for meals. 5) Whenever a close existing customer visits locally, some of them may call us out for both formal and informal meetings . Depending on their request, we may have to plan an itinerary and drive them around. 6) Whenever high management from our HQ visits locally, we may also have to plan an itinerary and drive them around. Tip It is essential you speak to the customers on the phone and understand them personally . This means knowing what they like and dislike. This will help you plan and arrange meetings that are comfortable and fruitful. Skillsets to close a sales Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:43:24 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! The worse technique is to make the customer agree when they don't agree. They are many times when we see a salesperson pushed too far, the prospects dislike it. So, how do all these skillful salesmen close their sales? 1) Great observation Skillful salesman understood what their prospect wants and/or needs by observing their interest with the product. An interested prospect will provide hints and are willing to meet for further discussion. There is no point in pushing further when the prospect isn't ready. 2) Great negotiation Based on the interactions with the prospect, a skillful salesperson will look for ways to fit the prospect's needs . The negotiation will always revolve around i) Price ii) Support iii) Timeline iv) Mixture of the above A few questions to help you are; If the price is too high, is there an alternative? Does the customer really need the features? If not, remove and provide a price cut to close the deal If the competitor provides a better offer, request to look at the quotation and help the prospect ensure the offer is indeed better than ours. 3) Close later If the negotiation outcome isn't fruitful, a skillful salesman knows it is not the right time. They will maintain the relationship and always look for ways to exchange value later on. Also, our interviewee mentioned; "If the prospect is not my customer, their network may be!". As long as we stay focus and resilient, we can do it!". Tips We have found a great website that explains the 20 different closing techniques by Klenty. We certainly learned from them! • I feel like committing suicide, what should I do?

I feel like committing suicide, what should I do? Brought to you by: Lee Mcking Hypnotherapy Content written by: Lee McKing Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:56:48 am Say Hello Article Step-By-Step Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Why suicide became your option? 1) Clueless - Are you clueless that you needed help? 2) Helpless - Are you helpless because you are not sure where and how to get assistance from? 3) Social Stigma - Do you fear social stigma as people may ridicule you of your mental health? 4) Love - Is this because that your loved ones aren't treating you well? My personal experiences I nearly died in days or even minutes when my right lung burst in my sleep. The burst's cause is due to multiple large holes at the top of my right lung, and I have to go through an operation to prevent it from collapsing again. After the operation, the doctor warned me about the possibility of my left lung bursting as well. Since then, I started to worry every night, I have fears, but I do not know who to speak to, and slowly, I developed depression. I have thoughts of suicide and am contemplating. I thought of different killing methods, but I realized I would either look ugly or end up in an even worst state if I failed. I do not want my family members to be sad. I still have friends and people who care about me. I did not notice that I am suffering from suicidal thoughts for so long. Why didn't I realized my change of behaviors? Why didn't I tell anybody about my thoughts? Why am I suffering silently alone? This may also be the same process you are facing now. You are confused. You are not sure who to tell. You feared that instead of help was given, and you might get ridiculed or criticized. You felt helpless. How can I seek help? Step 1 Stop suffering quietly and recognise this is an issue that you shouldn't see lightly. Step 2 Ask yourself, who can I trust? Who can I speak comfortably to and share my worries with? Is this a family member or a close friend of mine? Step 3 If you feel that your loved ones are able to hear you out and help you, speak to them. If you wish to avoid letting your family and friends know about it first, you may consider seeking professional help. You can do so by emailing or calling to enquire how they can help you. They should help you identify what is happening to you and must allow you to feel better. If speaking to your family members was ineffective, you may also consider getting professional help as well. Never suffer alone! Step 4 Once you feel better, let your family members and friends know of your situation if they don't know. You will need to explain clearly why and how you are suffering all this to avoid assumptions. Remember, during difficult times, suicide is never the best form of escape. This is pushing of responsibilities to the ones left behind. For professional help, you can message Lee Mcking by clicking here ! • Far too many CCA choices in JC? Here's 4 tips to help you select!

Far too many CCA choices in JC? Here's 4 tips to help you select! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:57:52 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Why should I spend time on activities outside of the curriculum? Joining co-curricular activities (CCA) allows you to gain fresh perspectives and exposure while having a hiatus from academics. You might also discover your talents or passion and develop useful transferable skills while participating! Here are four factors to consider when selecting a CCA 1) Passion 2) Commitment 3) Scale 4) Relevance 1) Passion - What are you passionate about? The different areas may include Arts, sports, politics, research, and many more. - It is crucial to identify where your passion lies as passion fuels sustainability . Join activities you are genuinely enthusiastic about so that your journey with them will be long-lasting and meaningful. - Undeniably, one’s passion might change. Therefore, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to change or make continuity from secondary school. The switch from secondary school to junior college provides you with a good avenue to try out other things you are finding passion for. - If you have yet to find your passion, JC will also be a good time to develop your interest into a passion. Enter JC with an open mind and be willing to step out of your comfort zone to explore areas, even at the slightest curiosity. ----- Additional Tips ----- Having trouble identifying your passion? Fret not. It is recommended if you could attend a trial session first to confirm your passion. Learn about senior’s past experiences by asking questions like “Why did you join the activity initially?”, “What makes you stay in this activity?” to have a better understanding! 2) Commitment - Make a point to find out the commitment level of the CCA before joining by asking the head of that CCA or researching their online platforms. - Commitment level can range from low; You are primarily more involved in the execution phase to high, where you have to contribute much more frequently. - Consider your ability and willingness to commit in the short-term and long-term . With careful consideration, you are responsible for your learning as well as for others by making sure not to jeopardise their plans or progress due to your sudden withdrawal. - If you are really passionate for the CCA but cannot be certain of your commitment, attempt to discuss with the head if it is possible to have a short trial period before giving your final decision of continuing or discontinuing. ----- Additional Tips ----- While thinking through about your ability to commit, take into account both peak (examination periods) and non-peak (holidays) seasons. Looking at the big picture allows you to honour what you promise. 3) Scale i) Previously, in secondary school, most CCA were set in the school context. As a JC student, you are opened to more activities, not just CCA and of a greater scale, such as; - within school level - community level - national level - International level ii) Community-level activities can include serving residents by participating in the Meet-the-People session as a volunteer or community service projects to help vulnerable social groups. iii) Joining different scales of activities gives you varying experiences and learning points. Building on your experience from secondary school, re-think your learning objectives and choose the scale that you want and are able to handle. iv) However, keep in mind that often, the greater the scale, the higher the commitment, and you must be confident of being able to juggle it along with your studies! After all, ‘A’ Level is our ultimate JC goal. ----- Additional Tips ----- Unlike school-based activities, community level activities require you to take the initiative to reach out to both governmental or non-governmental organisations personally. Research on the agency websites for opportunities to sign up! 4) Relevance - Consider practical reasons for joining activities outside of the curriculum in JC . After the ‘A’ Levels, you will begin to apply for tertiary institutions or internships which require a strong portfolio for you to stand out. - Simply having a portfolio full of activities does not make it a strong one. Instead, the activities should be relevant to your future endeavours. - For example, if you would like to read about Medicine, you could join your school’s medical society. Suppose you would like to be in the research industry, you could participate actively in the famous student research opportunities like the Nanyang Research program. ----- Additional Tips ----- Look beyond JC. What is your future aspiration? How can you then begin to explore earlier while in JC? You may also like Starting JC? Here's 5 tips to ace it! Want to do well academically in JC? • Understand Processes Fast

Understand Processes Fast Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:49:57 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Knowing the step-by-step allows you to have clarity in planning! Even though this process is time-consuming, the benefit of having clarity allows you to resolve problems much quickly! Here are a few ways you can do to help understanding processes fast! 1) If you have the people in the workplace to seek clarification, grab them! People who are well-versed in the process can greatly benefit your understanding of the situation. 2) If you need to work with people from the customer's side, you must identify someone who is closest to the process. Otherwise, identify those who manage the process. Ask your customer if you can work with these critical people to help make you understand their processes. 3) When working with people to gather information about the process, execute from a holistic approach first. Understand what are the major steps first before entering into the "nitty-gritty" areas. If necessary, get your definitions right to enhance your understanding during the conversation. 4) Always stick to your clear objective and avoid sinking into the "nitty-gritty" areas. You may ask yourself; "Is the information provided relevant?", if not, you need to help the other person to focus their explanation on areas you are concerned with. 5) If you do not have the correct people to work with, you may consider finding information by watching videos related to the topic you are working with. Focus on holistic explanation on processes to ensure you understand the situation before jumping into unfamiliar areas. Skip certain parts of the video if necessary. Also, aim to get your basic definitions right! 6) It is important you go through the processes by explaining your understanding with an experienced person related to the process. Clarify and piece up your knowledge to determine whether you have understood the major components. Because time is always the limitation, you must identify the purpose behind critical processes. "Ask why!" This will give you the intention of the work and thus be able to guide you through your thought process more effectively! This allow them to work straight away and make mistakes that we can immediately rectify - Once all basic knowledge are acquired, we will set a more difficult real case scenario, to see if they have understood the basic concepts . - During the training, we make sure all trainees understood their actions have consequence . Portraying as an approachable person, we will need them to clarify if unclear before they start developing their individual method of execution. 2) We also train trainers or provide discipleship to ensure a development team is able to assist us in training more hires as the company expands locally and overseas. To do this, we will conduct a 3 phase probation by; - Having the first phase being close to them . Proper correction through observing how they conduct their training classes will determine if we can let them work independently on the second phase. we will usually spend once a week to train and guide them - For the second phase, we will start to make lesser appearance in their class unless they have enquiries - The third phase will determine if a trainer is good by looking at how well their trainees are doing. Also, if trainers are able to speak, execute and address any concerns confidently, this means they are most likely to pass the probation. - Depending on the different operations, we may send these new trainers for further external courses to build their ability in the needed areas and thus is important to tie them down with a contract as this is an investment. Working with peers on design (Wheeled Robotic) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:39:00 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! You need a team to design a robotic platform, working solo can be very difficult. As timeline for projects become tighter and workload becomes heavier, you need to work with other engineers to get things up! Here, we identified who you will be working with and how to work well with them; 1) Managers and stakeholders You need to understand and align expectations with the management to ensure your design outcome is fruitful. Other stakeholders who will be providing useful information and support can include business development and sales. Because of their relationship with the client or have exposure in the relevant field, acquiring information and design needs can help enhance your design process. 2) CAD drafter If your workload is high, CAD drafter can help you lighten them. You can concentrate on the design concept and let this person help you in engineering drawings. However, you need to provide clear instructions on; i) Dimensions ii) Location of components iii) Movements, for example; opening/closing of the cover 3) Electrical and Electronic Engineer Identify the required space and location for electrical and electronic components such as; i) Battery ii) Computer board iii) Ventilation iv) Radiofrequency (RF) Antenna v) Ports for charging and power tapping vi) LIDAR and its horizontal and vertical angle vii) Ultrasonic sensors viii) Other utility and junction boxes for power conversion, data reading and more. ix) Cable holders and anchor points for cable management x) Thickness and bending radius of cables and wires xi) Electrical shielding; especially near motors You must identify and ask for dimensions of all these parts to coordinate the design appropriately. Always remember to ask if there are alternative solutions in place if there are constraints in location and space. Tips i) Always set a deadline to the relevant peers when working with them ii) Communicate and help to resolve issues together as the design is a synthesis of mechanical, electrical, and electronic iii) At some point, you need to reject and make a point to prevent the design to go around in circles, especially when many new changes could potentially confuse everyone and human conflict and error will increase . iv) Ensure the work is a team and does not end up having someone juggling everything alone as chances of careless mistakes can be high You may also like Prototyping (Mechanical Design) Production (Mechanical) Support pre-tender activities (Mechanical) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. Routine checks (Nurse) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:44:57 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Ensure patient meets the necessary requirement to survive and to maintain their well-being 1) Check ECG monitor and compare with previous record if there is any steep changes . This is important to ensure the patient’s health is well monitored and anomalies to be reported immediately. 2) Check to ensure the ventilator (breathing equipment) is set correctly. If the patient keeps coughing, feels uncomfortable and has odd behaviors, this may be the issue. If you tried and problem persists, you may have to send the patient to critical care. 3) To ensure blood and fluid flow are smooth, check; i) Tubing to ensure they are not kink (pressed) that would cause the flow to stop ii) Loose tubing that would also prevent flow from happening 4) If patients are too violent due to emotions and/or pain, they will tend to pull fluid tubing out, which affects their medical stability. We will then have to use sedative drugs to keep them asleep . If we observe they are sweating, we will have to take their temperature to check if they have a fever. Tips For accountability purposes, always check if the actual readings of ECG are the same as the report provided in the time slot by the previous shift. If numbers are incorrect, seek clarifications and rectify accordingly. Ensure the nurse from the previous shift is aware of the changes and have them acknowledged with a written note and signature. This is important because if the patient pass away suddenly, the person on shift is held accountable . • Want to do well academically in JC? Here's 6 tips to help you!

Want to do well academically in JC? Here's 6 tips to help you! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:58:07 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! The lecture-tutorial teaching system is a key feature of Junior College. This mainly differs from secondary school. Therefore, one has to find new ways to adapt and do well. With “excelling at the A-Level” as the end in mind, these specific tips serve to make the preparation process over the two years less of a struggle with your consistent efforts. 1) Style of learning 2) Long-term efforts 3) Planning & goal-setting 4) Practice is key 5) Verify your learning 6) Health & well-being 1) Style of learning i) We need to identify what type of learners you are. Do you fall under; - Visual - Auditory - Hands-on Visual learners use diagrams to better aid learning. Auditory learners can recite the content or listen more to recorded content to stimulate memory. Hands-on learners do better by touching and doing things physically. ii) Learning styles also refer to the environment that allows you to study best. Ask yourself these; - Do you prefer studying at home or outside from home? - Do you prefer quiet places like the library or relatively more noisy ones like cafes? - Can you study with friends or can you only study alone? - Does listening to music while studying distract you or help you focus better? By answering these questions, we can understand how to study more effectively and productively . iii) Different subjects also require different learning styles . These include; - Writing your own notes (beware of spending too much time) - Constant memorisation - Constant practice Additional tips There is no one-size-fits-all way of learning. Experiment with a variety and eventually develop your learning style to study smart and efficiently. 2) Long-term efforts We should not expect rewards without hard work . To do well for ‘A’ Level as well as the examinations leading up to it, you must be prepared to put in consistent hard work These long-term efforts apply to both lectures and tutorials. i) For lectures, - Pay full attention to them as they are the main platform for acquiring new knowledge - Avoid dozing off during lectures and relying on recorded lectures. Make use of your time at school wisely to acquire “how-to” in answering questions. Recorded lectures are only useful if you know how to use it. Acquire sufficient sleep is very important! ii) For tutorials, - Conscientiously complete them and ensure your quality of work. This helps you to understand the process of answering the questions that are relevant to your exams - Avoid accumulating overdue tasks . While sometimes you may have to temporarily prioritise others over studies, make sure to eventually come back to the assignments. A disciplined mindset is very important Additional tips Consistency is key. Long term efforts are more important than short-term ones. This is a time to train your tenacity and resilience “Sow the seeds of hard work and you will reap the fruits of success” Israelmore Ayivor 3) Planning & goal-setting Planning reduces uncertainty and confusion ; thus, results in productivity. i) Areas of planning can include - when to revise concepts - when to memorise content - when to do practices It would be good to have these plans aligned to the lessons your teacher is giving; so you can acquire answers directly during the lessons. ii) While planning, you should also set goals . At the end of completing what you planned to do, you should be able to answer these questions - Which or how many learning outcomes do you want to achieve? - For the upcoming examination, what grade do you want to obtain? - To realise that goal, how should you amend your plan to cater to your needs later on as different commitment starts coming in? iii) Goal-setting allows one to have a direction to work towards Additional tips Set a goal so you can craft a direction to get there. Avoid doing without thinking. Avoid thinking without doing. Many of us will tend to forget this plan usually because they might have many plans later on. A good plan is one that you stick to it and follow through by refining and making it better to reach your goal! 4) Practice is key i) Listening to lectures and completing tutorials are inadequate. Lectures are for you to be exposed to new knowledge for the first time. Tutorials are for you to learn how to apply concepts to problem-solving ii) To complete the learning process, you have to practice either using past-year school papers or the “Ten-year Series”. This allows you to be familiarised with the examination context. You will know how to tackle iconic examination questions that test the same concept repetitively. The purpose is to let you identify the type of questions whenever you see them appear Additional tips “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” Aristotle Practice makes improvement! 5) Verify your learning i) Large amount of time is needed for practice. Therefore, avoid practicing without aligning to your plan and causing your precious time to go to waste. ii) Schedule consultations with teachers to make sure you are learning the right way. This includes; - Did I understand this concept correctly? - Am I employing the most appropriate or efficient method to answer or solve this question? iii) If you feel uncomfortable speaking to your teachers, you may want to pick up this skillset as communication is important when you are in the workforce. iv) Nevertheless, it takes time. So start by paying attention in all lessons as other classmates will ask questions that may help you refine your plan Additional tips Learn with guidance. Available time to learn is limited and precious, use them wisely! 6) Health & well-being i) It is inevitable to become stressful while preparing for the major exam. It is important to ensure your mental and physical health to prevent yourself from breaking down or burning out in the process. ii) Pace yourself well and reward yourself with appropriate amounts of time off studying. Breaks can include; - Treating yourself to your favourite snacks - A short nap - Or simply doing your hobbies! iii) Have an adequate amount of sleep and eat healthily . This allows you to welcome each day with energy and positivity . A healthy body also ensures that you can function in the long-term. Imagine working so hard but falling ill near the ‘A’ Level; that will be upsetting! iv) If you need someone to talk to in order to de-stress, never forget about your support systems, such as your friends, teachers, and family members! Additional tips Never neglect your mental and physical health for studies! They are equally important. Instead, strike a balance between work and play. “Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well” Louisa May Alcott You may also like Want to become a better leader in JC? Communicating with Headquarter (Field Engineer) Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:44:07 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! When product issues are beyond our capabilities to resolve, we will seek help from the Headquarters. Because the headquarters (HQ) of reputable brands usually are located in Europe, the US, and China, Singapore becomes an attractive regional hub as for technical and sales activities. Mainly because of our bilingual capabilities and stable operations. To seek advice, we usually email HQ first . Unless urgent or necessary, we will arrange a voice or video call. Time zone is a crucial factor here. 1) The reasons for seeking their advice are; i) The headquarter oversees the manufacturing of products and systems. Thus, they should be aware of the problems during manufacturing and software configurations. ii) There may be a lack of steps taken during a manufacturing or configuration process, which may cause anomalies. iii) It may be a setting issue when HQ forgot to configure it back to its original state after testing is done iv) It may be a compatibility issue if newer versions of their products cannot communicate well with older systems. v) The new product was launched too quickly and was not fully tested in actual scenarios. Hence, the error occurs, and a new form of solution has to be devised. 2) To ensure proper communication; i) In our email, we ensure that the issues are stated and elaborated clearly by - Stating how the problem was surfaced - Details of the problem - Attempted troubleshooting carried out - Stating relevant observations ii) Enquiries will usually take up to 3 days , depending on the complexity of the issue iii) Sometimes, a system patch could solve the problem iv) If necessary, certain components and parts that HQ couldn't solve are replaced with versions they are more confident with You may also like Managing expectations of customer as an Engineer Assisting sales team (Field Engineer) Paperwork (Engineer) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. • Project Management as an Engineer

Project Management as an Engineer Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: WE Development Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:53:33 am Say Hello Article Job Process Say Hello Share with someone you care ! There are 3 important considerations when managing an engineering project. They are; 1) Managing People 2) Managing Time 3) Managing Finance Manage People - Matching the skills of individuals to the right task - Motivating the team to ensure they are motivated and to maintain quality delivery of results - Keeping the team well aware of latest updates from customer to prevent “last minute” rush for work - Provide clear instructions and executions to prevent misunderstanding to different stakeholders - Manage expectations of customers by not overselling the project and timeline, regular discussion with them helps in aligning and matching current and new expectations Manage Time - The project has adequate fund to last throughout committed time to customer - Optimizing cost by understand the actual market price from competitor and multiple vendors during course of project - Plan for Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of all products beforehand, a good rule of thumb is to have 10% spares for critical and frequently used items - If you can outsource the services to a supplier to expedite the process, you may do so Manage Finance - When requiring manpower, requests beforehand instead of “last minute” - Avoid having the mentality to delay the task before all other possible solutions are exhausted. If you are unable to deliver the full project on time, your company will be fined with Liquidated Damage (LD) charges. - Always include intentional spare time during planning to ensure project has proper time buffer to manage unforeseen circumstances - Have the mindset to motivate everyone to finish their tasks quickly and reliably , otherwise, team members may take time for granted - Know how to identify tasks or individuals who are stopping things from moving , then, resolve it quickly to ensure work schedules are properly met You may also like Working with Video Analytics (VA) software RMA and Maintenance Networking (Non-Sales) Disclaimer We did our best to provide you with thought-through content. Starting JC? Here's 5 tips to ace it! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:58:12 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! While two years seem short, there is so much that a junior college student can achieve. It is crucial for one not merely to be fixated on the 'A' Level examinations but to strike a balance between academic excellence and holistic development . In the long term, this can help one's pursuits beyond junior college. Hence, here are five tips to help you! 1) Initiation 2) Exploration 3) Self-identity 4) Priorities 5) Collaboration 1) Initiation - Have a motivated mindset to be proactive in learning new things and to take the initiative to make your JC journey useful for your future! - Step out of your comfort zone by experimenting with new things and making mistakes. By learning through failing, we grow, mature, and become better! - Getting used to taking initiatives in junior college is an excellent habit to cultivate self-directed learning, which will eventually be the main learning mode in your future tertiary education and beyond. A message of encouragement Don't be afraid to step into the unknown. The decision is yours to make. "A spark is a little thing, yet it may kindle the world. ” Martin Farquhar Tupper However, do practice safety and avoid unhealthy influences! 2) Exploration - Avoid spending the entire two years only studying. While 'A' Level examination is the final destination at the end of JC, this is also now a suitable time for you to experiment with different activities. - These activities can include event-planning on a Co-curricular Activity (CCA), school or even community level, volunteering, networking sessions, job attachments, and competitions. - All these accumulated experiences can enrich your portfolio, which will be used during post- 'A' level tertiary educational institution or internship applications. - Beyond simply exploring, take time to engage in post-activity reflections, and crystallise what you have learned from these experiences. This can show the future interviewers that your participation was meaningful and not superficial. A message of encouragement Accumulate life lessons from exploring the unfamiliar. You can start by gaining exposure through meeting new people, joining new activities, and trying out new things! 3) Self-identity - It is crucial to find and develop your self-identity; What defines you as a person? What are your values and principles? - This can help you to eventually craft your Unique Selling Point (USP) so that you will be able to distinguish yourself from people and being successfully chosen or accepted. - A commonly asked question would be, "Why should we choose you and not others?" Start by asking yourself this; "Why me?" . A message of encouragement "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." Oscar Wilde, De Profundis Take time to know yourself , your values, your beliefs. Never let the external noise influence your internal self! 4) Priorities - While gaining exposure is important, you still have to be clear about your role as a student and fulfil that role ultimately. The goal is still to do well for the 'A' Level so that you can be brought to your dream job or institution. - Therefore, be mindful of not taking up too many commitments to prevent yourself from being overwhelmed and compromise your quality of work or ability to be responsible as a result. - It is impossible for you to complete everything at once. Rank the commitments you have chosen to take up in terms of factors like urgency or impact. Sometimes, it is inevitable that we have to give up on some to achieve the greater good. A message of encouragement It will be good if you can take time to reflect and plan your priorities to be effective! Do the right things at the right time. 5) Collaboration - While there are fewer subjects to study in junior college than secondary school, the content tested is much heavier. Moreover, you are expected to manage all the different subjects concurrently. - You can make the studying process less tedious by tapping on the resources available around you . For instance, make study notes together with your like-minded friends. Such collaboration relieves workload, introduces more ideas, and diversifies perspectives. - For people who are afraid to clarify their doubts with their teachers alone, organise a group consultation session instead. This again facilitates the exchange of ideas, making learning more enjoyable and less lonely. - Collaboration is a crucial skill that is applicable when one enters the workforce as well. Junior college provides a constant avenue for you to learn how to collaborate and reap its benefits. A message of encouragement If you have not learned how to communicate and collaborate with people, now is the time! Two or more heads are better than one. Want to become a better leader in JC? Here's 4 ways to help you! Brought to you by: WE Development Content written by: Christy Lee Last Updated: 9 June 2021 at 2:57:41 am Say Hello Article Tips Say Hello Share with someone you care ! Promoting from secondary school to JC, most of you who once had leadership roles might be looking for leadership opportunities. Instead of repeating the same leadership process again in JC, here are four suggestions for you to discover new leadership styles and contexts so that you can experience growth and progress in your leadership journey 1) Skills upgrade 2) More self-initiation 3) Leave a legacy 4) Self-reflect 1) Skills upgrade - In JC, you can consider taking up a leadership role that requires a greater amount of responsibility and skills set . Often, this means a leadership position that requires a higher caliber. - This way, you can serve a larger group of people, and while catering to their needs and leading with solutions, you would be able to acquire more leadership skills such as public speaking, strategic planning and executions. - Such new soft skills, together with the existing ones you already possess, will sharpen your leadership style and will be very applicable to your future. 2) More self-initiation - In JC, more flexibility and autonomy are given to students because teachers want to nurture independent and innovative student leaders. - One should use this distinct characteristic of JC leadership to self-initiate new and creative projects. This includes setting up interest groups or community service events that align with your interests, beliefs, and principles. - This is the perfect avenue for you to use your originality to realise a plan you have aspired to lead. Through this, you will understand the importance of having the need to motivate people, providing the right information, and planning a good process that enables good implementations. 3) Leave a legacy i) It will be desirable if you manage to leave something beneficial and long-lasting for the organisation you are serving or your juniors upon graduation. ii) Leaving a legacy marks your positive contribution as a leader who has good leadership qualities iii) Examples of sustainable systems that can be left behind include; - Administrative systems - A successful project that would continue to be held annually - A long-term partnership of your CCA with an organisation/sponsor 4) Self-reflect i) Self-reflection is an important process whereby you recall your actions for the day, for the past week, or even from a long time ago , and think - What you have done well - What you could have done better - What you should not have done at all - What you should avoid in the future ii) It can take the form of; - writing a diary - blogging - any other ways of recording the process down. iii) Do not stop at noting it down. Go back to them and read through from time to time. This helps to crystallise important lessons learned, prevent yourself from letting history repeat itself, and apply the good aspects for the future.
